Women's tennis moved to 7-7 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST play
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Xavier women's tennis continued its strong start to the BIG EAST season, earning its second conference victory with a 7-0 shutout over Providence on Saturday, March 25. The match was played in South Orange, N.J.
The Musketeers move to 7-7 on the season and 2-0 in BIG EAST play. The Musketeers defeated the Friars in singles and doubles extending their winning streak to three games.
Senior Sydney Liggins defeated her opponent in No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Liggins and doubles partner Rachael Reichenbach overpowered the No. 2 doubles with a 6-1 victory. Reichenbach also won at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Senior Cristina Di Lorenzo claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles. Di Lorenzo is the only Musketeer to hold her opponent scoreless throughout the match. Di Lorenzo and partner Lauren Ghidotti also claimed an impressive victory at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 victory. Ghidotti won No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 decision.
Sophomore duo Sophia Abelson and Zoe Manion claimed a victory for the Musketeers with a score of 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. Abelson and Manion both also found success in singles. Abelson won No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory while Manion won at No.6 with a 6-0, 6-2 decision.
The Musketeers are set to face Seton Hall on Sunday, March 26.
