Musketeers score most runs since May 15, 2007 in blowout victory to start season
CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball launched seven home runs in a 22-9 win over visiting Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday afternoon at Hayden Field.
The run total represented the most for an XU team since May 15, 2007 in a 23-11 win over Toledo. XU has hit six or more homers in a game just three times since 2007.
The Musketeers, who are 7-2 in their last nine, improved to 14-12 overall. The Knights dropped to 4-12 on the season.

• After being held scoreless for just the third time this season on Wednesday at Miami (OH), Xavier's offense broke out in a big way on Friday with a season-high 20 hits and 22 runs.
• 13 different players recorded a hit in the win and the 20 hits were the most by an XU team since April 19, 2014 against Butler.
• Xavier got seven homers from six different players, marking just the third time the Musketeers have hit six or more in a game since 2007.Â
• Rylan Bannon led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs. The junior third baseman tied a career-high with three runs scored and drove in four as well. It was his first career multi-homer game.
• Joe Gellenbeck (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI) launched his fifth homer of the season in the second inning and also worked his team-leading 21st walk of the season.
• Sam Flamini didn't record a hit, but the sophomore did score twice and knock in a run on a sacrifice fly.
• Nate Soria (2-for-3, 2 R, 3 RBI) smacked his third homer of the season as part of a seven-run sixth inning.
• Will LaRue (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI) went yard for the first time this season, going back-to-back with Nate Soria in the sixth. The junior also stole his team-leading 11th base.
• Stephen Haring (2-for-2, R, 3 RBI) hit a two-run homer to left center in his first at-bat of the season in the eighth inning. He then came around again during the six-run frame and singled to left for another RBI.Â
• Chris Givin went 2-for-5 with a run scored, RBI and a walk. After missing 17 games, Givin is now hitting .333 (3-for-9) in two games since coming back from a hand injury.
• Connor Grammes went 2-for-3 and worked a walk, extending his streak to 10 straight games reaching base.
• Grammes continues to swing a hot bat, recording a .529 (18-for-34) batting average with a homer and five RBI over his last 10 games.
• Ethan Schmidt (1-for-1) homered to left center in the bottom of the eighth for his first longball of the season.
• Roger Danison (1-for-1, 2 R, BB) collected a hit for the second straight game.
• Ryan Fournier (1-for-1, R, BB) connected for his first career hit, singling to center in the eighth.
• Mitch Gallagher (1-for-4, 2 R, RBI), Nate Monastra (1-for-1, R, RBI, HBP) and Matt Fallon (1-for-6, R) also collected hits for Xavier.

• Senior lefty Trent Astle got the start and last three innings while surrendering five runs.
• Senior lefty Brad Kirschner (2-1) followed out of the bullpen, working a season-high four scoreless innings and striking out three to pick up the win.
• Freshman righty David Williams struck out two in the seventh, allowing two unearned runs.
• Senior righty Jason Hall closed out a second straight game for the Musketeers, allowing two runs in the eighth.

• FIRST INNING: Mitch Gallagher was plunked to begin the frame, later advancing to third on a throwing error by the pitcher and scoring on a double to right by Conor Grammes. Grammes and Bannon then scored with two outs when FDU's third baseman sent a wild throw to first.
• SECOND INNING: Nate Soria walked to begin the inning, but was thrown out trying to steal second. Will LaRue then walked as well and was successful on his steal attempt, going to third on a single by Matt Fallon. With runners on the corners, Mitch Gallagher grounded out to short to bring LaRue across the plate. Joe Gellenbeck followed with a two-run homer to right. Rylan Bannon then made it back-to-back with a solo shot to left.
• FIFTH INNING: Nate Soria started a two-out rally with a single up the middle, coming around to score on a long double to right center by Will LaRue.
• SIXTH INNING: Mitch Gallagher singled on a bunt to the first base side and moved to second when Joe Gellenbeck worked a walk. Rylan Bannon then launched a three-run homer to left center to make it 11-5. With one out, Sam Flamini reached on a walk and went to third on a double to right by Chris Givin. With two on and one out, Nate Soria smashed a homer to left to make it 14-5. Will LaRue batted next and made it back-to-back for the second time in the game with a solo blast to left.
• SEVENTH INNING: Roger Danison worked a leadoff walk, eventually coming around to score on a sacrifice fly to center by Sam Flamini.
• EIGHTH INNING: Nate Monastra was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, coming around on the next batter as Stephen Haring smacked a two-run homer to left center. With one out, Ethan Schmidt delivered a solo blast to left center to make it 19-7. Back-to-back singles by Roger Danison and Ryan Fournier put two on again with just one out. After a strikeout, Sam Flamini reached on an error to load the bases before an infield hit by Chris Givin made it 20-7. Nate Monastra and Stephen Haring then provided back-to-back RBI singles to produce the final two runs for XU.

• Xavier returns to action on Saturday, April 1 playing host to Fairleigh Dickinson for game two of the weekend. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Hayden Field.
