Lowther Dominant Again as Givin's Homer Keys 2-1 Win Over Seton Hall for Baseball

Chris Givin connects for first homer, Zac Lowther provides six scoreless as XU goes to 2-2 in league play
MASON, Ohio – Sophomore shortstop Chris Givin launched his first homer of the year, clearing the left center wall in the fourth inning and Zac Lowther was superb again as Xavier baseball picked up a 2-1 win over Seton Hall on Thursday night at Prasco Park.
Xavier improves to 19-15 overall (2-2 BIG EAST) with the win, while Seton Hall drops to 15-15 (1-3 BIG EAST) with the loss.
The series continues on Friday afternoon at Hayden Field with a 3 p.m. first pitch.

• Chris Givin went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer in the fourth, his first of the season, giving XU all the runs it would need.
• Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-3, BB) provided the only other hit for the Musketeers.
• Will LaRue worked a pair of walks and swiped a base, giving him a team and league-leading 17 steals this season.
• Rylan Bannon worked a pair of walks, giving him a team-high 27 for the year.
• The Musketeers worked six walks as a team and have had a base on balls in all 34 games this season.

• Sophomore righty Matt Kent rung up three in two spotless frames of relief, lowering his season ERA to 1.64.
• Trey Schramm secured his first save of the season in the ninth, surrendering a leadoff homer before buckling down to get a pair of strikeouts and a grounder to strand two.
• As a unit, the Musketeers retired 16 straight from the end of the third until the ninth inning.

FOURTH INNING: Nate Soria was hit by a 3-2 pitch to lead off the inning and came around promptly as Chris Givin launched a two-run homer over the wall in left center to make it a 2-0 game.

• XU continues the series on Friday and Saturday back home at Hayden Field. First pitch against the Pirates will come at 3 p.m. on Friday and the series will wrap on Saturday at 12 p.m.
