"It was a successful weekend for us out in California at the two meets we attended. Although it didn't go as smooth as I had planned, I think we'll walk away with one athlete on the preliminary list for the 1st round of NCAA's, in addition to breaking two school records. I also think the four athletes that I brought to California learned a lot. Each learned how to push themselves further when up against higher level competition and three of the four learned a lot about race tactics that they wouldn't have learned at any of the normal meets we attend. Finally, I think the whole experience will help push them to the next level, which is to compete at the 1st round of NCAA's."
Â
"Gina's race was bittersweet. Although she ran a personal best by over 15 seconds and got her self on the preliminary list for the 1st round of NCAA's, she took a hard fall with four laps to go. I'm surprised she got back up at all since she essentially did a bellyflop over one of the barriers and landed on her pelvis. She's such a tough individual and she so determined at this point to reach her goals that she was able to get back up and work her way back up into third place. She came into the event seeded in the 40's and finished 12th overall. Based on how she looked and felt before the fall, we know that there's a lot more there and Gina will get a few more chances to prove it."
"Nolan's 800 didn't go exactly how we planned it. The race went out hard through the first 200 but then it slowed down going into the 400 and 600. Â Nolan was forced to do most of the work and still managed to break our outdoor school record in the 800. He now holds both the indoor and outdoor school records."
"Grant had a solid race in the 1500. It was a very large field which made for a chaotic start and finish but he did a great job of keeping his composure and executing the plan we set up. I was a little disappointed with his third lap but I know once he cleans that up he will be close to an NCAA mark as well."
"Alondra always seems to get stuck in heats with girls that don't want to race. Once again she had to lead the race, push the pace and do all the work for a group of girls that ended up passing her with about 300 meters to go. Although she ran a personal best, I know that's she much more fit then how she's been racing. I'm excited to see what's to come, especially at BIG EAST where her competitive side will really come out."
Â
"Nolan really went for it in his 800 at the Beach Invite. We wanted to use this race as a test to see how hard he could go out through the 400 and how long he could hold on. He normally goes out in around 54 seconds through 400 but today he came through in 52 and kept pushing all the way through 650m. He tied up a bit over the last 120-150 but I though he ran really tough and proved to himself that he's ready to go out hard and hold on when he's fresh." Â
"Grant doubled back in the 800 at the Beach Invite as well but because he felt a tweak in his hamstring during the race, he played it safe and didn't push himself too hard. Things could have gone a lot worse, so I'm happy that he's not injured but I'm disappointed for him because I know how much he was looking forward to a fast 800."
