Musketeers Wrap Up Action at the Pacesetter Invitational
04.22.17 | Track and Field
Xavier had 28 top-10 finishes over the two-day meet
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Xavier track and field posted 28 top-10 finishes at the Pacesetter Invitational highlighted by two, first-place finishes. The two-day meet was hosted by Indiana State University on April 21-22.
Â
"This was a tough meet for us as a team. Most of our group hadn't competed in several weeks so they were really looking forward to it but the conditions didn't make it easy. The cold temperatures and strong winds not only effected their performances but in some cases didn't allow them to get wind legal times. Our team is better then how we competed this weekend, we just need an opportunity to show it."

"The women's 5k was a fun event for us to race on Friday night. We approached the race like a cross country race, where the girls would pack up and push one another through two miles. Our pack broke up a little before 3k, but I think the plan worked well. It was great to see Delainey have a breakthrough on Friday night to not only win the 5k but also drop 40 seconds off her personal best. She looked really strong so I think she's ready to drop more time when she's pushed earlier."
"Tori also looked very good in 800 but made a tactical error at 350 meters that cost her a few seconds in the end. I was pleased with her 7th place finish but I know she's ready to run at least two seconds faster right now."
"I thought Brooke ran a very smart race to place 5th in the 1500. The conditions weren't great so we weren't racing for time. The goal was to let a small group lead her through the 800 and then move up within the pack over the second half of the race. She executed the plan well, only falling off during the last 200 from the leaders."
"On the women's sprint side of things, Sydney had a great day. She finished 2nd in the 400 and 3rd in the 200, with a new PR of 25.12 in the 200. Right behind her in 4th place was Sheridan, running 25.31."
Â
"In the men's 5k on Friday night, Jack picked up one point and a new personal best of 15:32. I've been pleased with Jack's progress during his freshman year. I think he's made the transition look easy and I can't wait to see what he can do for us next year."
"Russell also had a good all around day. He placed 2nd in the high jump and won the 100 in a wind aided 10.57. Dimitrious placed 4th in the 100, running a personal best of 11.01. Matt also ran a person best time of 11.16 in the 100." Â
"Zach and Dimitrious went 3rd and 4th in the 200, both running personal best marks (wind aided) of 21.74 and 21.76."
