Musketeers and Vikings face off at 6PM on Friday, August 18
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's soccer open up the 2017-18 season for Xavier Athletics when the Musketeers host Cleveland State on Friday, August 18. First touch is set for 6:00 p.m. in the first official contest of head coach Nate Lie's tenure at Xavier.

- Cleveland State finished 2016 with an overall record of 5-12, including a 2-7 record in Horizon League play.
- CSU, led by first year head coach Dallas Boyer, returns 16 from last year's team, including eight starters.
- The Vikings played a pair of exhibitions in preseason training, picking up a 1-0 win at Buffalo and topping Duquesne, 2-1, at home. Junior McKenna Vento scored the game winner in both games, and sophomore Aliani Lorenzo added the insurance goal against the Dukes.
- The match-up will be the first in series history between the Musketeers and the Vikings.

- Xavier returns 19 letterwinners from last year's squad that finished 7-11-1. Among the returnees are junior forward Samantha Dewey, who was named Second Team All-BIG EAST last season after leading the squad with 20 points (8G, 4A) last season.
- Dewey is among seven starters returning including redshirt-senior Tori Doss, who provided a spark off the bench after suffering an arm injury last season.
- The Musketeers also added a pair of forwards, freshman Sydney Schembri and junior transfer Emma Westwater, who transferred from Canisius, as well as a pair of freshmen midfielder/forwards, Emily Burton and Caitlyn Baron.
- At midfield, the Musketeers bring back senior Maddie Tierney, who also logged minutes on the backline last season, as well as senior Skylar Groth, junior Jessica Miller and sophomore Courtney Lankford. Joining the returnees are redshirt freshman Carrie Lewis, who transferred from N.C. State, as well as true freshman Megan Sullivan.
- Seniors Carly Alfano, Addie Englehart and junior Andie Kennard return to the Xavier defense which lost Courtney Kobashigawa, who led the Musketeers in minutes played last season, to graduation from last season. Freshman defenders Abi Janszen and Kara Sanders also join the Musketeers.
- Sophomore Toni Bizzarro returns at goalkeeper, after splitting time in-goal with Rachel Piccus last season. The Musketeers lost Piccus to graduation but return junior Libby Grace and add freshman Camryn Yacks of Highlands Ranch, Colo., at goalkeeper.

PRESEASON HONORS |
- Junior forward Samantha Dewey was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, becoming the first Musketeer to earn preseason conference honors since Xavier joined the BIG EAST in 2013.
- Dewey, a native of Fairland, Ind., has led the Musketeers in points in each of her two previous seasons at Xavier. After posting 20 points on eight goals and four assists in 2016, Dewey was named Second Team All-BIG EAST, making her the first Musketeer to earn first or second team honors since joining the conference. Dewey was also named to the All-Ohio Second Team after the 2016 season.
- As a freshman, Dewey was a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team after a 22-point rookie campaign. She was twice conference rookie of the week and has earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll honors three times in her career.

- Xavier heads out on the road to finish up opening weekend, traveling to Durham, North Carolina to take on the No. 12 Duke Blue Devils on Sunday, August 20 at 1:00 p.m.
- The Musketeers return home the next weekend, hosting a pair of games against Ball State and Pittsburgh at the XU Soccer Complex.

- Friday's game against Cleveland State is the home opener for Xavier Athletics
- Xavier's next home game, Friday, August 25 against Ball State will be a Friday Night Doubleheader with men's soccer. One ticket provides admission to both the men's and women's soccer games that day. The game against Ball State will also feature a poster giveaway. The first 250 fans in attendance will receive the 2017 Women's Soccer poster.

SEASON TICKETS ON SALE |
- Xavier men's and women's soccer season tickets are now on sale. Season ticket buyers will receive a limited edition Xavier soccer scarf with their purchase, marking the sixth year of the scarf program.
- Season tickets are just $25 each and include the limited edition scarf. Season ticket buyers will receive tickets that will provide admission to both men's and women's soccer regular season matches held at the Xavier Soccer Complex.
- Women's soccer will host a number of local opponents including Northern Kentucky and Dayton in addition to four BIG EAST foes as part of an 11-match home schedule.
- Soccer season tickets can be purchased online now. They can also be purchased by returning the order form or calling the Xavier Athletics Ticket office at 513-745-3411 x. 7. Season ticket buyers will be able to pick up their limited edition scarf at all August home matches, but should remember to bring their tickets to all matches for admission.
