Fitzpatrick, Smith Finish Tied for 16th Overall, Women's Golf Takes Sixth at William & Mary Fall Invitational

Musketeers place two in top-20 at first event of the fall
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Xavier women's golf wrapped up play at the William & Mary Invitational on Monday morning, finishing sixth overall as two Musketeers grabbed top-20 finishes individually.
Sophomore Mikayla Fitzpatrick and junior Mikayla Smith both carded 76 in their final round to finish 12-over and tied for 16th as individuals.
Smith was consistent all three rounds, shooting 77-75-76 and finishing three rounds at 2-over on par 4's. The top 20 finish was the third of her career and the 228 (+12) was a career best three round score for Smith.
Fitzpatrick finished in the top 20 of her fifth career tournament, carding 73-79-76 over three rounds.
Freshman Morgan Tinsley was also consistent all three rounds, logging a 78-74-79 (231, +15) to finish in a tie for 26th as an individual.
As a team, Xavier ranked second in the field in par-3 scoring. The Musketeers averaged 3.12 and were 5-over as a team on par 3's.
XU also ranked fifth as a group with 109 total pars and 16 birdies at the event.

The Musketeers finished the day sixth of 11 competing teams, shooting a 311 in the final round to finish 56-over as a team. XU was 17 strokes behind host William & Mary and the College of Charleston, both of which finished in a tie for fourth.
Penn State won the tournament, finishing 24-over a a group. UNC Wilmington (+26) and Seton Hall (+28) rounded out the top three.
Xavier travels to Lansing, Mich. on September 23-24 for the Mary Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers West Golf Course.
