Women's Golf Moves Up on Day Two, Fitzpatrick Ties for Eighth at Mary Fossum Invitational

Musketeers finish fourth as a team with second straight round of 303 on Sunday afternoon
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Xavier women's golf moved up a spot, finishing fourth at the Mary Fossum Invitational as sophomore Mikayla Fitzpatrick charged to a top-10 finish individually on Sunday.
Fitzpatrick fired a 1-over score of 73 in her third round to cap the tournament at 9-over with a 225 three-round total, collecting her first top-10 finish of the season and third of her career. Fitzpatrick's 36 pars ranked fifth in the field.
Mikayla Smith shot a career-best 72, carding an even par round to jump into a tie for 13th and taking home a top-20 finish for the fourth time as a Musketeer. Her tournament score of 226 was also a career-best.
Smith and Fitzpatrick both finished the weekend 1-under on par 5's to lead the team.
Senior Lindsey Murray finished off a consistent tournament, shooting 78-79-78 to place in a tie for 25th at 19-over. Murray shot even on par 3's over the weekend.
Freshmen Morgan Tinsley and Ke'Asha Phillips both concluded their rounds at 24-over and tied for 38th overall.
XU finished the tournament second in the field with 29 birdies, as Smith led the way with nine individually.

The Musketeers finished the tournament fourth of 10 competing teams, shooting a 318 in the first round before rebounding to post back-to-back team scores of 303. After placing ninth as a team in the first round, XU shot up to fifth and then to fourth after the final round.
Host Michigan State won the tournament by a significant margin at 5-under for the weekend. Toledo (+41) and Charlotte (+45) took second and third, respectively, in front of Xavier (+60).
Xavier heads to the Jacksonville Classic on Monday, Oct. 2 to begin the two-day event at Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
