Kristen Massa Posts a Career-High 20 Kills in Four-Set Loss at Colorado

The senior outside hitter added eight digs and four blocks
BOULDER, Colo. – Senior outside hitter Kristen Massa posted a career-high 20 kills on Friday night as the Musketeers dropped a four-set (23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25) match at Colorado.
Xavier moved to 4-7 on the year, while the Buffaloes improved the 8-1.
• Kristen Massa led Xavier in kills (20), while posting a team-high .302 hitting percentage. She added eight digs and four blocks. The senior outside hitter is now 19 kills away from hitting the 1,000-career kill mark.
• Xavier posted four more blocks (12-8) than Colorado. The Musketeers have posted 10 or more kills in six matches this season.
• Alexis Newsome led Xavier with seven blocks, while adding seven kills. Laura Grossman added four blocks and Lauren Frilling chipped in three.
• Laura Grossman recorded 12 kills in the loss, her third match of the season with 10 or more kills.
• Mackenzi Humm was one dig shy of a double-double as the setter finished with 23 assists and nine digs. Nadia Dieudonne added 20 assists and 12 digs, her third double-double of the season.
• Meredith Klare posted a match-high 20 digs. The junior libero has posted 20 or more digs in a match four times this season.
• Colorado led from start to finish in the opening frame. The Buffaloes used a 6-1 run to open the set, but Xavier battled back to get within one three times. With the score at 24-23, Colorado got a kill from Frankie Shebby to hold on for the 25-23 win.
• Kristen Massa and Laura Grossman both had six kills. Meredith Klare added six digs.
• Xavier trailed by five, 20-15, late in the set before scoring seven unanswered points to take a 22-20 advantage. The Musketeers scored three of the final four points of the set - capped by by blocks from Alexis Newsome and Kristen Massa - to win, 25-21.
