Musketeers Drop Three Set Match at No. 22 Colorado State

Freshman Maya Krause posted six kills in the loss
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Xavier volleyball continued Colorado State Tournament action on Saturday afternoon with a three set loss (10-25, 19-25, 18-25) to the host No. 22 Rams. The Musketeers moved to 4-8 on the year, while Colorado State won its 10th consecutive match to improve to 10-1.
Xavier concludes tournament action against Albany (0-11) at 7 p.m.
• Kristen Massa led Xavier in kills with 11. The senior outside hitter added two blocks and two digs.
• Freshman Maya Krause added six kills, while Alexis Newsome chipped in five kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Newsome also led the Musketeers in blocks (3).
• Senior setter Mackenzi Humm led the Musketeers in assists (14) and digs (5). She added three kills in the loss. Classmate Lauren Frilling had four kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
• Colorado State hit .667 in the opening frame to pull away for the 25-10 win. Kristen Massa hit .429 with four kills to pace the Musketeers.
• Xavier jumped out to an early 11-7 lead capped by a Mackenzi Humm kill. Colorado State responded by scoring six straight to regain a lead they would never relinquish as the Rams would go on to win the set, 25-19. Kristen Massa led Xavier with six kills in the frame.
• Colorado State never trailed in the final stanza. Xavier got within two, 15-13, midway through the set before the Rams used a 10-5 run to close the set and win 25-18.
• The Musketeers wrap up tournament action at 7 p.m. against Albany.
