The senior outside hitter now has 1,002 career kills

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Senior Kristen Massa recorded her 1,000th career kill on Saturday night, leading the Xavier volleyball team to a four-set win (21-25, 25-15, 25-6, 25-13) over Albany. The Musketeers ended non-conference tournament action with a 1-2 mark at the Colorado State Tournament over the weekend.

Xavier moved to 5-8 on the year, while Albany dropped to 0-12.

NOTABLES

• Kristen Massa and Alexis Newsome led Xavier with 10 kills each. Laura Grossman added nine kills and a team-best .467 hitting percentage, while Lauren Frilling and Morgan Finn each posted seven kills.

• Kristen Massa added 14 digs as the senior outside hitter recorded her fifth double-double of the season. Massa also added five blocks in the win. The senior now has 1,002 kills during her Xavier playing career.

• Alexis Newsome added a .429 hitting percentage and seven blocks. Lauren Frilling and Moriah Hopkins both added three blocks.

•Xavier had nine more blocks (13-4) than Albany, the team's seventh match with 10 or more blocks.

• Meredith Klare led the Musketeers with 16 digs. Samantha Foti also chipped in nine digs.

• McKena Estes led Xavier with 25 assists, while Nadia Dieudonne added 17.

SET ONE

• The opening set had six ties and four lead changes. With Xavier trailing 20-19, the Great Danes used a 5-2 run to close the set - winning the opening frame, 25-21.

SET TWO

• Xavier never trailed in the second set behind a .306 hitting percentage, winning 25-15. Laura Grossman hit .800 with four kills in the set.

SET THREE

• Xavier never trailed in the third frame behind a .421 hitting percentage, winning 25-6. The Musketeers also took advantage of 12 attacking errors by the Great Danes. Xavier also posted five blocks in the set.

SET FOUR

• The Musketeers jumped out to a 12-8 lead before pulling away for a 25-13 victory. Xavier posted another solid hitting percentage (.500) in the set.

• Moriah Hopkins had four kills in four attempts, while Lauren Frilling hit .571 with four kills. Kristen Massa added seven digs.

UP NEXT

• The Musketeers open BIG EAST action on Wednesday, Sept. 20 against DePaul at Cintas Center. First serve is slated for 4 p.m.
