The senior middle blocker had a career-high 17 kills in the win

CINCINNATI – Senior middle blocker Lauren Frilling posted a career-high 17 kills on Saturday afternoon, leading the Xavier volleyball team to a five-set win (23-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-13) over Western Michigan.

Xavier moved to 4-2 on the year, while the Broncos dropped to 2-3.

NOTABLES

• Lauren Frilling posted a new career-high in kills for the second time in as many matches, recording 17 kills. The senior middle blocker hit .452 and added three blocks.

• Xavier had eight more team blocks (12-4) than Western Michigan. The Musketeers have posted double-figure kills in four of their six matches this season.

• Senior Kristen Massa recorded a double-double, matching Lauren Frilling for the match-high in kills (17) – while adding 17 digs.

• Laura Grossman matched her career high in kills with 14. The junior hit .310, while adding three digs and two blocks.

• Freshman Nadia Dieudonne posted a season-high 43 assists to go along with 13 digs.

• Meredith Klare had a team-high 23 digs, while Samantha Foti chipped in 16.

SET ONE

• Neither team led by more than three points in the frame. With the score at 22-21, Western Michigan closed the set by scoring three of the final five points to secure the 25-23 victory.

SET TWO

• The second set featured eight ties and one lead change. The Broncos used a 4-1 run to close the set, winning 25-19.

• Kristen Massa had five kills, while Samantha Foti had five digs.

SET THREE

• Tied at 10, the Musketeers went on a 10-5 run to pull ahead, 20-15. Western Michigan got within four, 23-19, before Xavier scored the final two points of the set – winning, 25-19. The Musketeers hit .366 in the set.

• Lauren Frilling hit .909 in the set with 10 kills, while Laura Grossman hit .714 with five kills.

SET FOUR

• The fourth set had eight ties and five lead changes. Tied at 18, the Musketeers used a 7-2 run capped by a Laura Grossman kill to win the set.

• Kristen Massa hit .417 with six kills, while Meredith Klare adding six digs.

SET FIVE

• The final set had six ties and four lead changes with the final tie at 13. Xavier took advantage of a Western Michigan error and got a kill from Laura Grossman to win the set, 15-13.
