
Musketeers Drop Tournament Finale to Texas State

Volleyball falls in three sets, moves to 4-3 on the season
CINCINNATI – Xavier volleyball dropped its tournament finale to Texas State on Saturday night in three sets (15-25, 17-25, 21-25). The Musketeers moved to 4-3 on the season in the setback.
• Laura Grossman and Alexis Newsome led Xavier with nine kills each. Newsome hit .350, while Grossman poste a .318 hitting percentage.
• Maya Krause added seven kills and Kristen Massa chipped in five. Massa also collected seven digs.
• Meredith Klare had a team-high nine digs to go along with five assists. Nadia Dieudonne chipped in a team-high 18 assists.
• Texas State jumped out to a 19-9 lead and never looked back, winning the set, 25-15, behind a .500 hitting percentage. Alexis Newsome paced Xavier with four kills and a .571 hitting percentage.
• The Bobcats posted another solid hitting percentage (.390), eventually pulling away for a 25-17 set victory. The set featured seven ties and two lead changes.
• Laura Grossman had five kills, while Mackenzi Humm dished out seven assists.
• Xavier trailed by as many as five (17-12) before using a 6-3 run to get within two (20-18) and force a Texas State timeout. The Bobcats responded by scoring five of the final eight points to win the set, 25-21.
• The Musketeers return to action at the Georgia Tech Tournament on Sept. 7-8 in Atlanta, Ga. Xavier opens tournament play on Thursday at 6 p.m. against the host Yellow Jackets.
