Volleyball Drops Tournament Finale to North Florida in Four Sets

The Musketeers matched their season high in blocks with 14
ATLANTA – Xavier volleyball dropped its final match of the Georgia Tech Invitational to North Florida in four sets (25-16, 18-25, 25-27, 21-25) on Friday night. The Musketeers finished tournament play with an 0-3 record.
Xavier moved to 4-6 on the year, while the Ospreys improved to 5-5.
 
	
		
• Xavier had three more blocks (14-11) than North Florida, matching its season-high in blocks. Alexis Newsome and Lauren Frilling paced the Musketeers with six blocks each.
• Kristen Massa had a match-high 12 kills to go along with nine digs. Laura Grossman added eight kills, while Lauren Frilling and Morgan Finn each added seven.
• Samantha Foti had a season-high 19 digs, while Meredith Klare added 11. The two players combined for three of the Musketeers' five aces.
• Nadia Dieudonne had a team-high 18 assists to go along with eight digs. Mackenzi Humm chipped in 10 assists and seven digs.
• Kristen Massa totaled a team-high 33 kills over the two-day tournament. Alexis Newsome added 26 kills a team-high .345 hitting percentage and 13 blocks.
 
	
		
• The Musketeers jumped out to an early 10-3 lead and led by at least five points for the remainder of the set, winning 25-16. Xavier had a match-high .286 hitting percentage in the set, while posting six more blocks than North Florida (6-0).
 
	
		
• North Florida opened the frame by using a 14-7 run. Xavier got within three, 15-12, to force an Ospreys timeout - but North Florida would even the match at one as they pulled away for the 25-18 win. Laura Grossman had four kills in the set to pace the Musketeers.
 
	
		
• Set three had eight ties and five lead changes. Tied at 25, North Florida took advantage of back-to-back Xavier attacking errors to win the set, 27-25. Kristen Massa led Xavier with four kills, while Samantha Foti had seven digs.
 
	
		
• The final set had five ties and two lead changes. Xavier led 20-18 before the Ospreys closed the set on a 7-1 run to win the match. Samantha Foti led Xavier with 11 digs in the set.
 
	
		
• The Musketeers travel to Boulder, Colo., to face Colorado on Friday, Sept. 15. First serve is slated for 9 p.m. ET.
