Musketeers Drop Three Set Match to Kansas State

Junior Meredith Klare posted a match-high 19 digs
ATLANTA – Xavier volleyball dropped a three-set match (22-25, 19-25, 19-25) to Kansas State on Friday morning at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Musketeers dropped to 4-5 on the year, while the Wildcats moved to 4-4.
The Musketeers conclude tournament play on Friday at 6 p.m. against North Florida.
• Alexis Newsome led Xavier in kills for the second time in as many matches, posting nine kills. The middle blocker also added a team-high three blocks.
• Kristen Massa added seven kills, while Lauren Frilling posted six. Laura Grossman chipped in five kills.
• Meredith Klare recorded a match-high 19 digs. The junior libero has averaged 4.74 digs per set this year, ranking first in the BIG EAST.
• Mackenzi Humm dished out a team-high 19 assists, while Nadia Dieudonne added 12. The two setters also combined for nine digs.
• The opening set had 12 ties and five lead changes with neither team leading by more than three. Tied at 21, the Wildcats used a 4-1 run to close the frame - winning, 25-22.
• Lauren Frilling had five kills in the opening frame with an .833 hitting percentage. Meredith Klare added seven digs.
• Kansas State never trailed in the second stanza and led by four, 20-16, down the stretch. Xavier scored back-to-back points to get within two, but the Wildcats held on for the 25-19 victory.
• Alexis Newsome hit .571 with a team-high five kills. Meredith Klare chipped in 10 digs.
• Xavier took an early 5-1 lead, but the Wildcats responded with a 12-4 run to force a Xavier timeout. The Wildcats never relinquished the lead and won the set, 25-19. Kristen Massa hit .800 with four kills to pace the Musketeers.
• The Musketeers wrap up Georgia Tech Invitational action at 6 p.m. against North Florida.
