Musketeers Fall on Friday Night Against Villanova

Na’Teshia Owens led Xavier with 11 points
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's basketball dropped an 89-50 contest to Villanova on Friday night at Cintas Center. The Musketeers moved to 9-12 (2-8 BIG EAST), while the Wildcats improved to 16-5 (6-4 BIG EAST).
• Villanova hit four of its first five shots to open the game, taking a 10-2 lead and forcing a Xavier timeout. The Wildcats hit 62.5 percent of their shot attempts to take a 24-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
• Villanova continued its hot shooting as the Wildcats connected on 65.6 percent (21-for-32) of their shot attempts in the first half to take a 52-16 lead into the locker room. Na'Teshia Owens led the Musketeers with six points at the break, while A'riana Gray paced Xavier on the glass with four rebounds.
• The Wildcats maintained its double-figure lead in the second half behind a .571 field-goal percentage (16-for-28). Villanova finished the night hitting 61.7 percent of its shot attempts – the highest clip by any team in the conference this season.
• Na'Teshia Owens led the Musketeers with 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting. She added three rebounds.
• Aaliyah Dunham added nine points on 4-for-6 shooting, while Kindell Fincher and Princess Stewart both chipped in six points. Stewart also led the team in assists with three.
• Villanova won the battle on the glass, 38-31. A'riana Gray led the Musketeers in rebounds with six in 21 minutes of action off the bench. She also had a game-high four steals.
• Xavier closes its four-game homestand on Sunday, Jan. 28 against Georgetown at 2 p.m. The game is being aired nationally on FS2.
