Women's Tennis Falls at Indiana, 6-1

Bloomington, Ind. – Xavier women's tennis dropped a 6-1 road match at Indiana on Saturday, Jan. 27.
In singles, freshman Ahmeir Kyle competed at No. 1 and earned a 6-2 victory in her first set but dropped the final two sets 2-6, 3-6. At No.2 singles, senior Lauren Ghidotti fell short in both sets, 3-6. Junior Sophia Abelson battled and earned the Musketeer's only singles victory, 6-3 ,6-2. At No. 4, senior Elizabeth Bagerbaseh fell short in a close match scoring 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1). At No. 5 and 6, sophomores Rachael Reichenbach and Lauren Fitz-Randolph both rounded out.
Doubles partners Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson earned the only doubles victory for the Musketeers, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot. Rachael Reichenbach and partner Elizabeth Bagerbaseh and Zoe Manion and partner Ahmeir Kyle lost 6-3.
Head coach, Doug Matthews is hopeful that Saturday's match will help with upcoming matches, "We competed extremely well today. IU just played better than us in the big moments and that was the difference. We are a better team now than we were last weekend so hopefully we can build on this."
The Musketeers open the home season on Feb. 2 against Libscomb. Coach Doug Matthews says, "We're excited to compete at home for the first time this season. We hope to use the home court advantage to grab the doubles point." The match will take place at Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club.
