Samson Sergi's fifth minute goal was the difference as XU moved to 2-1-1 in league play
CINCINNATI – Samson Sergi tallied in the fifth minute and the early goal would prove to be all Xavier men's soccer needed to get by visiting Villanova, 1-0, on Saturday night at XU Soccer Complex.
Xavier improved to 4-2-5, 2-1-1 BIG EAST with the win, extending its home unbeaten streak to 14 straight and getting a big three points after a tough three-match stretch. XU also picked up its fifth shutout of the season and first since Sept. 11 against No. 6 Kentucky.
Villanova dropped to 6-4-1 and 1-3 in the BIG EAST with the setback.

5' | Xavier 1-0 | Sean Wilson fired a diagonal pass from midfield to Cameron Belle, who streaked up the left flank before centering a cross to Samson Sergi who finished a point-blank header. It was his third goal of the season.
• Samson Sergi scored his third goal of the season, tying him for second on the team with Tomek Pauer.
• Cameron Belle registered his third assist of the season on the Sergi goal, ranking third on the team.
• Senior Colin Hanley played the full 90 minutes in his second appearance of the season in net, earning his first solo shutout and going to 1-0 on the season.
• Simen Hestnes, Sergi and Tomek Pauer tied for the team lead with three shots apiece.
• Hestnes was held without a point in the match, snapping a streak of four straight fixtures with at least a point.
