CINCINNATI – Xavier men's basketball defeated Kentucky Wesleyan, 98-69, on Thursday night in an exhibition game. Four Musketeers scored in double figures, led by Tyrique Jones and Naji Marshall who posted 22 points each.

FIRST HALF

The sophomore duo of Paul Scruggs and Naji Marshall led the Musketeers at the break with 14 points each, both shooting 75 percent from the field (6-for-8).
Tyrique Jones ended the half with 10 points, shooting 4-for-6 from the field.
Marshall dominated the defensive boards as he earned five rebounds at half.
Xavier led by as many as 20 points in the first half coming with Scruggs' layup to put the Musketeers up 45-25 with less than three minutes remaining.
Xavier started out strong defensively, earning a team total of seven steals which turned into 17 Musketeer points.
Xavier outscored Kentucky Wesleyan on points in the paint, 32-10.
The Musketeers entered the locker room after a monster dunk from Tyrique Jones, putting Xavier up, 52-35.

SECOND HALF

Kentucky Wesleyan went on a 13-9 run to open the second half to get within 13, but the Musketeers responded by outscoring the Panthers, 23-16, to go up by 20 at the 5:13 mark.
Xavier led by as many as 31 points twice in the second stanza.
The Musketeers turned five Panther turnovers into seven points.
26 of Xavier's 46 second-half points came from in the paint.
The Musketeers shot 19-for-36, 52.8 percent from the field in the second half.
Jones and Marshall both ended the game with 22 points, leading the way for the Musketeers.
Graduate transfer Ryan Welage shot 75 percent from three-point range in the second half.

NOTABLES

Xavier finished the game with 21 assists led by Welage with five.
Marshall dominated the defensive boards, finishing the games with seven defensive rebounds as well as adding three assists and three steals.
Scruggs finished the game with 20 points and Welage finished with 17.
58 of Xavier's 98 total points came from inside the paint.
