The sophomore forward scored a team-high 14 points with a career-high 14 rebounds
CINCINNATI - Sophomore forward A'riana Gray scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds - her second double-double of the year - on Saturday afternoon, leading the Xavier women's basketball team to a 48-35 win over Fairfield. The Musketeers moved to 3-1 on the year, while the Stags dropped to 2-1.
• Xavier scored six unanswered points to open the game and force a Fairfield timeout. The Musketeers went 5-for-11 in the opening frame to take an 11-2 advantage into the second quarter. Lauren Wasylson scored five points on 2-for-2 shooting in the first quarter.
• The Musketeers opened the second quarter on a 4-0 run to take its largest lead of the half, 16-2, and force another Fairfield timeout. The Stags battled back to get within six points twice before the Musketeers ended the quarter on a 5-2 run, taking a 23-14 lead into the locker room.
• Lauren Wasylson led all scorers with eight points on 3-for-5 shooting at the break. Na'Teshia Owens added seven points and two steals, while A'riana Gray chipped in six points and a team-high six rebounds.
• Xavier held a 20-16 advantage on the glass and forced 11 turnovers, converting the miscues into nine points. The Musketeers also limited Fairfield to a .160 field-goal percentage (4-for-25).
• Xavier made its first four shots of the third quarter to take a 32-16 advantage. The Musketeers outscored the Stags, 14-11, in the frame - taking a 37-25 lead after three quarters of play.
• The Musketeers led by as many as 17 points (48-31) with 5:02 left in regulation before posting the 48-35 victory. Xavier hit 47.8 percent (11-for-23) of its shot attempts in the second half.
• Sophomore A'riana Gray led three Musketeers in double figures with 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Junior Na'Teshia Owens and freshman Lauren Wasylson both chipped in 11 points. Owens also dished out a game-high five assists and Gray collected a team-high three steals.
• A'riana Gray also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds as the Musketeers posted a 35-32 advantage on the glass. Sophomore Deja Ross and freshman Maddy Johnson both pulled down four rebounds.
• Xavier forced 18 turnovers, converting the miscues into 20 points. The Musketeers also limited the Stags to a .220 field-goal percentage (11-for-50).
• The 35 points allowed are the fewest since a 67-27 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 25, 2015 at Cintas Center.
• Xavier returns to action at Wake Forest on Wednesday, Nov. 21. TIp-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
