Wasylson, Musketeers Pick Up 62-50 Road Win at Wake Forest

The freshman guard had 16 points and four 3-pointers on Wednesday night
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Freshman Lauren Wasylson was one of three Musketeers in double figures on Wednesday night, scoring 16 points to lead the Xavier women's basketball team to a 62-50 win at Wake Forest. The Musketeers move to 4-1 on the year, while the Demon Deacons fall to 3-2.
• Xavier knocked down two 3-pointers to open the game, taking a 6-2 lead and forcing a Wake Forest timeout. The Demon Deacons ended the quarter on a 12-3 run to take a 14-9 advantage.
• The Musketeers opened the second quarter on a 14-2 run, taking their largest lead of the half (23-16) with 3:28 left on the clock. Wake Forest battled back to knot the game at 26 heading into the locker room.
• Aaliyah Dunham and Lauren Wasylson both had nine points to pace the Musketeer offense in the first half. Dunham also pulled down a team-high four rebounds. Wake Forest held a 23-13 advantage on the glass, while the Musketeers held a 11-4 advantage in points off of turnovers.
• Eight of Xavier's nine baskets in the first half were three pointers. Aaliyah Dunham and Lauren Wasylson each had three.
• Xavier started the second half on a 14-4 run to take its first double-figure lead of the game, 40-30, at the 5:37 mark. The Musketeers were 6-for-9 from the floor during the run.
• Xavier outscored Wake Forest, 23-15, in the third frame to take an eight-point lead (49-41) into the final quarter.
• Tierra Floyd drained a three pointer on the Musketeers' second possession of the fourth quarter to give Xavier a double-figure lead again. An Ayanna Townsend layup on the next play gave Xavier a 13-point advantage, 54-41, at the 7:57 mark.
• Xavier maintained its double-figure lead for the remainder of the game and led by as may as 14 points (62-48) in the closing seconds (00:25).
• Sophomore A'riana Gray led the Musketeers in scoring (17) and rebounding (6) on Wednesday night. She was 6-for-17 from the floor and 3-for-8 from behind the arc. She added three steals.
• Freshman Lauren Wasylson scored 16 points on 4-for-8 shooting with four 3-pointers. She added three rebounds and two steals.
• Sophomore Aaliyah Dunham scored 13 points on 4-for-10 shooting to go along with five assists. Junior Na'Teshia Owens added five points, six assists and five steals.
• Wake Forest won the battle on the glass, 36-31. The Musketeers forced 17 turnovers, converting the miscues into 17 points. Xavier also had four more steals (10-6) than the Demon Deacons.
• Xavier returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 29 against Bowling Green. Tip-off is slated for 11:30 a.m.
