MAUI – Xavier men's basketball opened up its second game of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational with red-hot shooting, jumping out to a 19-point lead, but the San Diego State Aztecs responded, chipping away at the lead late in the first and going ahead in the second to give the Musketeers a 79-74 loss in the second game of the Invitational.
Career-best marks for Quentin Goodin, who led the team with 20 points, Zach Hankins, who added 15 and Elias Harden, who scored nine, fell just short of the late come-back for the Musketeers.

FIRST HALF |
- Xavier opened up a 4-0 lead to begin the game and pushed out to an 11 point lead in the first six minutes.
- The Musketeers hit 4-of-5 from three, including three from Elias Harden, in the first nine minutes of the game, to extend the lead to 14, 25-11, with 11 minutes remaining before the break.
- On his three early threes off the bench, Harden set a new career high in just four minutes of action, which led Xavier in the first half.
- Xavier used 13 points off of seven turnovers to build its early lead, extending its advantage out to as many as 19, 32-13, in the first half, before a 10-2 run from the Aztecs cut the lead back to 11 with five minutes remaining before halftime.
- After retaking a 13 point lead, San Diego State scored nine straight to cut the lead down to four, 36-32, going into the final two minutes of the half.
- Four points in the final two minutes for Zach Hankins ended the Aztec's scoring streak, giving the Musketeers the 40-37 edge at the break.
- After opening the game shooting over 66 percent, Xavier finished the half shooting 16-30 from the floor, including 5-of-11 from three.
- The Aztecs held a 14-13 advantage on the boards in the first half.

- Xavier opened the second half with a 6-2 run to extended the lead back to eight, 47-39, before SDSU scored 11 straight to give SDSU its first lead, 50-47, with 13 minutes to play.
- The Aztec run continued into a 19-2 run to extend the lead out to nine, 58-49, with 10 minutes to play.
- Paul Scruggs ended the run for the Musketeers, and a Tyrique Jones made it four straight for Xavier, cutting the SDSU lead to five, 58-53, with just under eight to play.
- Xavier trailed by as many as nine in the final six minutes, but an 8-0 run for the Musketeers, featuring five points from Quentin Goodin, cut the Aztec lead down to one, 64-63, with three minutes to play.
- Five straight points for SDSU pushed the lead back to six in the final minute of the game.
- After trading free throws, a Goodin three cut the lead back to four 73-69, going into the final 25 seconds of the game. Goodin would score five points in the final 20 seconds of the game, but SDSU connected on 6-of-8 free throws to hold onto the lead, wining 79-74.
- Goodin led Xavier with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting in the second half, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc.
- Zach Hankins added seven, going 2-of-2 from the floor in the second half.
