Musketeers introduce a pair of instate recruits, will join team for 2019-20 season
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's golf has officially added two new recruits for the 2019-20 season, signing a talented duo from Ohio during the November signing period.
The recruiting class was announced officially on Tuesday by head coach Brian McCants, who is in his third season with the Musketeers. Xavier resumes its season in late February at the Loyola (MD) Intercollegiate.
• Mason Wagner – Dublin, Ohio (Dublin Jerome)
• Jack Wertz – Cincinnati, Ohio (Elder)

Mason Wagner – Columbus, Ohio (Dublin Jerome)
• Won GolfWeek Junior Tour event held at Darby Creek in April of 2018, scoring 70-73
• Earned two top-10 AJGA finishes in July 2018, tying for fifth at the AJGA Circle K Junior Championship at Otter Creek with scores of 73-69-70 and tying for sixth at the AJGA City of London Junior Championship with scores of 74-69-73
• Three-year letterwinner for Dublin Jerome, where he was a two-tim state champion in 2017-2018
• Had low average score for his team in 2018 with a 72.8 average
• Named 2018 Dublin Jerome Team MVP
• Named First Team OCC Cardinal Division, First Team All-District in Central Ohio and First Team All-Ohio at the 2018 OHSSA State Championship
Coach McCants on Wagner:
"I couldn't be more excited to have Mason be a part of Xavier men's golf. Mason personifies two things that I try to identify when evaluating young men to join our program, he genuinely has a passion for the game of golf and he wants to be the best player he can be. The level of success that he and his teammates at Dublin Jerome have experienced the last two years is important as he'll bring that same drive and motivation for success here for us. I anticipate Mason will have a long list of accomplishments during his Musketeer career."

Jack Wertz – Cincinnati, Ohio (Elder)
• Three-time Cincinnati Elder HS Player of the Year
• Twice named Southwest Ohio Golf Coaches Association Division I First Team (2017, 2018)
• Set Elder HS single season scoring record (2017)
• Medalist at Lakota East Invitational with a -5 score of 67 (2018)
• Medalist in 2017 Golfweek Junior Tour at Miami University (74-75)
• Fourth place in 2018 Golfweek Junior Tour event at NCR Country Club (70-74)
• 2018 All-Ohio Academic Team
Coach McCants on Wertz:
"I'm so happy that Jack is a part of Xavier men's golf. I've watched Jack develop into one of the most physically talented competitors in the Midwest. I can't wait until Jack is on campus and the two of us can begin working together to realize the immense potential that he has. Jack is a true competitor, he works just as hard in the classroom as he does on the golf course, so he will be a perfect fit for us."
