Men's Tennis Announces Spring Schedule

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's tennis head coach Doug Matthews announced a 21-match regular season schedule for Spring 2019, leading into the BIG EAST Championships. Xavier will begin its dual schedule on January 12, 2019 at Michigan State, where the Musketeers will face the host Spartans and Chicago State. Xavier will host eight matches and make nine road trips prior to the BIG EAST Championship, set to begin April 18, 2019 in Cayce, S.C.

- Michigan State posted a record of 11-18 last season, going 0-11 in BIG 10 Conference play.

- The Cougars first match of the spring season will be against Xavier.

- The Musketeers will look for early-season momentum in facing a tough non-conference opponent.

- The Bruins finished the 2017-18 season with a 14-11 overall record.
- Belmont did not face off against the Musketeers last season, but both teams participated in the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals and Louisville Invitational this past fall.Â
- Ball State finished last season with a 14-11 record last season.
- Xavier grabbed two singles wins against Ball State in the Louisville Invitational Oct 19-21.
- Defeated Xavier 4-3 last season on Feb. 2.
- The Wildcats will be Xavier's first BIG EAST opponent of the season.
- Xavier defeated Villanova 7-0 last season as the Wildcats failed to record a conference win in 2018.
- Villanova went 9-15 overall last season.
- Georgetown got the better end of a close match against Xavier last season on Feb. 23, posting a 4-3 victory over the Musketeers.
- Georgetown went 10-6 overall last season, going undefeated in BIG EAST Conference play.
- Finished with a 14-16 overall record in 2017-18 and went undefeated in conference play.
- Xavier and Bryant did not meet up in any fall invitationals in 2018.

- Richmond finished last season with a 14-11 record, winning half of their matches at neutral sites.
- Head Coach Houston Barrick is in his second at Richmond following five years at VCU as the Associate Head Coach.
- The Louisville Cardinals went 15-11 last season and recorded five wins in ACC Conference play.
- The Musketeers did not meet the Cardinals last season.
- Both teams competed in the Louisville Invitational on Oct. 13-14.
- Wright State looking to improve upon a 13-12 record last season.
- Xavier fell to the Raiders 3-4 last season, despite playing exceptionally well in doubles play.
- Northern Kentucky finished the 2017-18 season with a 2-13 record and went 0-7 in conference match play.
- Xavier defeated NKU last season 6-1, earning wins in two doubles matches and victories in all but one singles match.
- The Bulls finished last season with a 13-10 record overall.
- Buffalo and Xavier did not play last season.
- Buffalo has seven international athletes from countries including Sweden, Chile, South Africa, Malaysia, and Greece.Â
- The Musketeers will take on Cleveland State at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland, OH.
- Cleveland State finished last season 17-11, losing only 1 match at home.
- Xavier fell to the Vikings last season 3-4 after struggling in singles play.
- DePaul finished the 2017-18 season 17-10 overall.
- The Blue Demons fell to Marquette in the BIG EAST Men's Tennis Championship title match last season.
- The Musketeers defeated DePaul on the road last season 4-3.Â
- Dayton finished the 2017-18 season with an 18-7 record, losing only one conference match.
- The Flyers defeated Xavier last season 6-1 on Mar. 16.
- Fell to VCU in Atlantic 10 Tournament Finals 4-1.

- Returning all nine letter winners from the 2017-18 roster.
- The Bulldogs defeated the Musketeers 7-0 last season.
- Marquette defeated DePaul last season 4-1 to claim the BIG EAST Men's Tennis Championship title.
- Ended the 2017-18 season with a 17-7 record.
- Defeated Xavier 7-0 last season at home on Apr. 8.Â
- The BIG EAST Championship returns to the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C. for 2019.
- Xavier was the No. 7 seed in the 2018 BIG EAST Championship where the Musketeers fell, 4-1Â to the No. 2 seeded St. John's Red Storm.
- Last season, No. 3 seed Marquette won the men's BIG EAST Championship, topping No. 6 Creighton, No. 2 St. John's and No. 1 DePaul en route to the title.
