Musketeers Fall in Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout on Sunday Afternoon

Na'Teshia Owens scored a game-high 20 points; Xavier falls, 79-61
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball had its four-game win streak in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout snapped on Sunday afternoon, falling at Cincinnati, 79-61, at Fifth Third Arena.
The Musketeers moved to 7-2 on the year, while the Bearcats improved to 7-5.
• Xavier hit its first six shots of the game to take an early 15-10 advantage. The Musketeers led, 17-15, at the first media timeout behind a .700 field-goal percentage (7-for-10). Xavier finished the first quarter with a .615 field-goal percentage (8-for-13), taking a 21-17 advantage after one quarter of play.
• Na'Teshia Owens paced Xavier with eight points on 3-for-5 shooting in the opening period.
• Cincinnati opened the second quarter on an 8-3 run to take its first lead of the game, 25-24, at the 6:48 mark. An A'riana Gray three pointer on the next play regained the lead for the Musketeers. The remainder of the first half featured four ties and one lead change. An A'riana Gray layup following a steal in the closing seconds of the half made the score, 41-41, at the break.
• Na'Teshia Owens paced the Musketeers with 12 points at intermission, while A'riana Gray added nine points. Aaliyah Dunham pulled down a team-high five rebounds. Cincinnati held a 24-16 advantage on the glass.
• The Bearcats opened the second half on a 17-7 run behind a .500 field-goal percentage (7-for-14), taking the game's first double-figure lead, 58-48, at the 3:29 mark. Cincinnati led by as many as 15 points (65-50) before the Musketeers closed the third quarter on a 6-0 run capped by an Aaliyah Dunham three pointer as time expired to get Xavier within nine (65-56).
• Cincinnati outscored Xavier, 14-5, in the final frame and limited the Musketeers to only one field - pulling off the 79-61 victory. The loss snapped a four-game win streak in the series for the Musketeers.
• Junior Na'Teshia Owens paced the Musketeers with a game-high 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting. She added four assists and three rebounds. She has now scored 20 or more points in a game twice this season.
• Sophomore A'riana Gray added 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds, her eighth game of the year in double figures. Aaliyah Dunham added eight points, five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Lauren Wasylson also chipped in eight points.
• Xavier held a 12-9 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Bearcats held a 51-30 advantage on the glass and a 21-4 advantage on second-chance points.
• Xavier returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 18 against Alabama State. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Cintas Center.
