Quentin Goodin Ups Career High in 69-55 Win Over Detroit Mercy

Junior guard finishes with 22 points and nine boards, both career bests
CINCINNATI – A new career high for Quentin Goodin led a trio of Musketeers in double figures as Xavier men's basketball pulled from Detroit Mercy in the second half, winning 69-55 at Cintas Center. Midway through the second half, a 21-6 scoring outburst turned a two point game into a 17-point Xavier advantage to move the Musketeers to 8-5 on the season. Goodin finished with 22 points to go with a career-high nine rebounds and nine assists.

FIRST HALF |
- Xavier took the lead on the opening basket, a three for Quentin Goodin, and went ahead by as many as seven, 15-8, in the first 10 minutes of the game. Goodin opened the game going 3-of-3 from the floor, scoring eight of Xavier's first 15 points.
- UDM cut the Xavier lead down to one possession, 17-14, before Xavier responded with six straight points to push its lead out to nine, 23-14, with 7:29 before halftime.
- After Xavier took its largest lead of the half, the Titans scored 10 unanswered to take a one-point lead, 24-23, with just under five minutes to play in the half.
- After falling behind, Xavier closed out the half with a 9-2 run to take a 32-26 lead into halftime.
- Goodin finished the half with a team-high nine points, and dished out four assists. The Musketeers finished with 11 assists, one on every made field goal in the half.
- Keonte Kennedy, Zach Hankins and Ryan Welage each finished with six points in the half.
- UDM held a 19-17 advantage on the boards. Zach Hankins led the Musketeers with five.
- Each team finished the half with five turnovers, but UDM turned those miscues into 10 points to just five points off turnovers for the Musketeers.

- Xavier opened up the second half with four straight points to take a 10-point lead, 36-26.
- A 9-2 run by the Titans cut the lead down to one possession, 38-35, and pulling as close as two, 40-38, with 14 minutes left to play.
- Over the next nine minutes, the Musketeers outscored the Titans 21-6 to break the game open, 63-46, going into the final four minutes of the game. The 17-point advantage was the Musketeers' largest of the game.
- During that run, Ryan Welage led the Musketeers with eight points, Goodin scored seven for the Musketeers, while Paul Scruggs added six.
- In the final five minutes, Detroit Mercy would get as close as 10, 65-55, with under a minute remaining, but the Musketeers went 4-of-4 from the free throw line to seal the game, 69-55.
- Goodin led Xavier with 13 points in the second half.
- Ryan Welage added 10 for the Musketeers on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor.
- Hankins grabbed six rebounds to lead Xavier as the Musketeers dominated the boards, 26-16, after the break, including a 18-6 advantage on the defensive boards.

- Quentin Goodin upped his career-high to 22 points to lead the Musketeers, topping his previous career-high of 21, set last Tuesday at Missouri. Goodin also finished with a career-high nine rebounds and nine assists.
