Musketeers return to the diamond for game two at 1 p.m. on Saturday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Xavier baseball fell in its 2018 season opener, 11-1, against No. 5 Florida State on Friday evening at Dick Howser Stadium.

The Musketeers fell behind early and trailed 5-0 until FSU broke the game open with a four-run sixth inning.

• The series continues on Saturday with a 1 p.m. first pitch scheduled at Dick Howser Stadium. Fans can watch the game on ACC Network Extra via the ESPN app or on ESPN 3.

XU AT THE PLATE

• Xavier was held to one run on four hits in its first outing of the year, striking out 14 times.
• Nate Soria drove in XU's lone run with a seventh inning sacrifice fly and also worked a walk to finish 0-for-1 in three trips to the plate.
• Joe Gellenbeck collected a pair of singles in his last two at-bats, finishing 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
• Junior Sam Flamini started at second base and was 1-for-4, doubling down the left field line in the fifth inning for XU's only extra base hit of the ballgame.
• Freshman Allbry Major was 1-for-4 with a run scored in his collegiate debut, beating out an infield hit in the seventh and coming around to score on a sacrifice fly.

XU ON THE MOUND

• True freshman Trevor Olson made his collegiate debut and lasted 1.1 innings, struggling to throw strikes while walking four and hitting a batter. The freshman was charged with three earned runs before exiting in the second inning.
• Freshman righty Henry Miller entered in relief and delivered 3.2 innings of one-run ball. Miller allowed six hits, but struck out two and kept the game close until FSU opened things up with a four-run sixth.
• Sam Czabala (0.2 IP, 4 ER) and Sean Douaire (1.1 IP, 1 ER) combined to work the sixth and seventh.
• Freshman Evan Miller turned in a scoreless ninth inning, allowing two hits but keeping the Seminoles off the board.

HOW XU SCORED

SEVENTH INNING: Allbry Major got things started with a one out infield single, going all the way to third on an error before coming in to score on a sacrifice fly by Nate Soria.
