Xavier Baseball Falls in Game Two of Weekend Series at No. 5 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Xavier baseball fell in game two of its weekend series, 7-2, at No. 5 Florida State on Saturday as the Seminoles scored seven unanswered runs after XU put up two runs in the first inning.

• The series wraps up on Sunday with game three set for a 1 p.m. start at Dick Howser Stadium. Fans can watch the game on ACC Network Extra.

• Xavier was held to two runs on six hits, striking out 14 times.
• Joe Gellenbeck went 1-for-4 with his first RBI of the season and is now hitting .375 (3-for-8) to start the year.
• Freshman Ryan Altenberger got the start at shortstop and went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double in his collegiate debut.
• Sophomore Conor Grammes went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double.
• Senior Blaine Griffiths went 1-for-2 with an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

• True freshman Nick Zwack got the start and went 3.1 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out two. The lefty finished the day with five walks and threw 76 pitches.
• Matt Kent came on in relief and allowed an uncharacteristic three walks and four earned runs in 2.2 innings. The junior righty walked just 11 and allowed just nine earned runs in 46.2 innings last season.
• Freshman Allbry Major finished out the game with two innings of scoreless relief, striking out one and allowing just one hit.

Joe Gellenbeck followed with a single to right, scoring Altenberger and making it a 1-0 lead for Xavier. Batting next, Blaine Griffith lofted a sacrifice fly to center to score Grammes and give XU a 2-0 advantage.
