Musketeers get solo homer from Grammes, solid relief work to wrap season-opening weekend
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Conor Grammes hit his first home run of the year and the Xavier bullpen combined for five innings of scoreless relief, but No. 5 Florida State completed a weekend sweep over the Musketeers with a 5-1 win on Sunday.
XU dropped to 0-3 with the result, while the Seminoles improved to 3-0 after the first weekend series of the season.

• Xavier returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at Kentucky. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

• Xavier was held to one runs on four hits, striking out 15 times.
• Sophomore Conor Grammes went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, his first of the season, and finished the weekend batting .417 (5-for-12) with two runs scored, a double and a homer.
• Freshman Ryan Altenberger got the start at shortstop and batted leadoff for a second straight game, going went 1-for-4 with a stolen base.

• Senior Damien Richard got the start, his first game action since June of 2016, and tossed three innings with two strikeouts. The righty allowed five earned runs and walked five.
• From there, the Xavier bullpen held FSU hitless and scoreless the rest of the way.
• Junior Trey Schramm came on in relief, making a successful season debut while throwing three scoreless innings without allowing a hit and striking out one.
• Sophomore Conor Grammes followed with a perfect 1-2-3 inning, striking out one.
• Freshmen Griffin Lanoue and Evan Miller combined to finish the eighth inning in scoreless fashion.
