A’riana Gray scored a career-high 12 points to go along with nine rebounds
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Xavier women's basketball dropped a 69-48 road contest at Providence on Sunday afternoon. The Musketeers moved to 9-19 (2-15 BIG EAST), while the Friars improved to 10-18 (3-13 BIG EAST).
• Providence hit 92.3 percent (12-for-13) of its shot attempts in the opening quarter to take a 28-6 lead. Xavier was limited to 2-for-12 shooting in the opening frame.
• Providence hit 84.2 percent (16-for-19) of its shot attempts through the first 15 minutes of play to build a 37-11 advantage. Xavier held the Friars to 0-for-8 shooting to end the half and outscored Providence, 12-11, to make the score 39-18.
• Kindell Fincher, Aaliyah Dunham, A'riana Gray and Imani Partlow all had three points at intermission for the Musketeers. Providence held a 20-13 advantage on the glass with Gray leading Xavier with five rebounds.
• Xavier outscored Providence, 15-14, in the third quarter with Na'Teshia Owens scoring six points in the stanza. The Friars went 7-for-9 from the floor in the final quarter to hang on for the 69-48 victory.
• Na'Teshia Owens scored a team-high 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting to go along with three assists. She scored 11 of her points in the second half.
• A'riana Gray scored a season-high 12 points on 5-for-11 shooting. The freshman nearly missed her second career double-double as she pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. She added a game-high three steals.
• Providence held a 34-27 advantage on the glass. The Friars also scored four more points (17-13) off of turnovers. Xavier held a 21-9 advantage in bench points.
• Xavier moved to 8-2 all-time against the Friars. The loss snapped a seven-game win streak in the series for the Musketeers.
• Xavier closes out regular-season action on Sunday, Feb. 25 against Butler. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Cintas Center with the game being aired on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
• The matchup will serve as 'Senior Day' for Anniina Äijänen and Jada Byrd.
