Musketeers will play doubleheader on Saturday at 3 and 7 p.m. to wrap up weekend play

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Blaine Griffiths hit a two-run homer in the second inning to give Xavier baseball an early lead, but Wofford stormed back to win 16-2 on Friday at King Field.

The Musketeers (1-4) will wrap up the weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday.

NEXT UP

• Xavier wraps up the weekend with a Saturday doubleheader, beginning at 3 p.m. and wrapping up at 7 p.m. with both games being played at USC Upstate.
• XU will play Presbyterian first at 3 p.m. and meets USC Upstate at 7 p.m.

XU AT THE PLATE

• Xavier collected just three hits and scored its only two runs on a homer by Blaine Griffiths.
• Blaine Griffiths went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer in the second inning, his first of the season.
• Joe Gellenbeck (1-for-4) and Chris Givin (1-for-3, R) also collected hits for XU.
• Will LaRue went 0-for-2 in his return from a thumb injury, playing his first game of the season and walking twice in the leadoff spot.

XU ON THE MOUND

• Freshman Nick Zwack (0-2) went three innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits and walking four in his second career start.
• Sean Douaire followed in relief, posting a 1-2-3 fourth inning before running into trouble in the fifth as Wofford plated seven.
• Senior Christian Glass finished out the game, firing three innings and allowing two earned runs while striking out two.

HOW XU SCORED

SECOND INNING: Chris Givin singled with two outs and Blaine Griffiths followed with a two-run homer to left center to give XU an early 2-0 lead.
