Track and Field Wraps Up Action at Gina Relays
04.28.18 | Track and Field
HILLSDALE, Mich. - Xavier track and field wrapped up action at the  52nd Annual Hillsdale College Gina Relays on Saturday afternoon. The three-day meet was held at Frank "Muddy" Waters Stadium.
Â
2. Jenna Clayworth - 1,500-meter run (4:41.43)
2. Kara Robinson - 400-meter hurdles (1:03.46) ^
4. Madeline Britton - 5,000-meter run (16:45.77)
^ college best time
Â
5. William Roberts - 400-meter hurdles (55.93)
5. Luke English - 400-meter dash (49.85)
8. Grayson Jenkins - 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:26.93)
Â
"Day one at the Gina Relays was outstanding. We went five for five with all of our 5,000-meter run athletes shattering their personal best marks. It started off with Madeline Dingle running a 22 second personal best to place second in her heat. Next came Amanda Cusimano who dropped 18 seconds to finish off her freshman year with a sub 18:00 min 5K. Both Amanda and Madeline have come a long way over the past few months and I'm really happy with where they're at going into next year. Next on the women's side was Jennie Prial. Although she only had a two second personal best, I think she learned a lot about how to push herself in the race. She went out hard and took a chance rather than being conservative as she has been for most of the season. Jennie finished off freshman year with a very respectable 5k PR and now she'll be transitioning to the steeple chase to try to score at the BIG EAST Championship."
Â
"On the men's side, both Evan Britton and Jack Hautz looked great. Evan dropped 17 seconds off his best in the 5K and showed how hard he can fight with the right completion to push him. Jack's heat of the 5K was a lot different from all of our others. Unfortunately, no one in his heat wanted to lead or push the pace so he was forced with a decision to go out slow or run on his own. Jack ran with the group until the final 1,000 meters of the race where he and four other guys pulled away. Although the initial pace was slow for him, he still managed to drop 13 seconds off his best. Because he looked so comfortable running a 15:08, I can tell he's ready to go a lot faster at BIG EAST in the right conditions."
Â
"During the second day of competition it was hard to match the excitement and intensity of day one but Maddie Britton did her best. I think she was a little tired still from her 10k at Mt. SAC and all of the travel but her time of 16:45 is the fastest 5K she's run in over a year and just one second off her best. Once she tapers and gets some rest over the next two weeks she'll be ready for a faster 5K at BIG EAST."
Â
"On our final day, the weather took a turn and we ended up with conditions that weren't great for a track meet but still managed to compete well. Jenna Clayworth led her heat of the 1500 over the final three laps and had no one to push her to the heat win in 4:41. For Jenna, this was just a tune up to get ready for the 5K at BIG EAST so I'm happy with her results. Â Luke English battled the wind to run his third fastest time of the year in the 400, while Kara Robinson and Will Roberts ran right around the same times they've been running in our past few meets. Breakthrough performances come out of consistent training and consistent racing, so I'm confident both will have the breakthrough they've been waiting for over the next two weeks."
