
Women's Tennis Falls at Marquette in First BIG EAST Setback

Musketeers travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. next weekend
MILWAUKEE – Xavier women's tennis dropped a tightly-contested battle at Marquette, 4-3, for its first BIG EAST loss of the season. The loss, only the third for the Musketeers in the last 10 matches, moves Xavier to 11-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Marquette took the doubles point, winning on No. 1 and No. 2 with both sets going to multiple tiebreakers. Elizabeth Bagerbaseh and Zoe Manion took the win on No. 3 doubles, 6-1.
The Golden Eagles pushed the lead to 2-0 after Kaitlin Ruether fell 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles spot.
Xavier responded with three-straight points to take the 3-2 lead. Rachael Reichenbach picked up the first point for the Musketeers in the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-2.
Bagerbaseh tied the match 2-2 with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 5 spot.
Ahmeir Kyle's 6-2, 7-6 (3) win in the No. 1 spot put the Musketeers ahead 3-2.
In the No. 2 spot, Lauren Ghidotti fell, 7-6 (4) in the first set but picked up a win in the second set, 6-2. In the third set she fell behind 3-1 before tying it up at 3-3. Her opponent picked up three straight points to win the third set 6-3, tying the match 3-3
Playing for the deciding point in the No. 3 spot, Sophia Abelson fell in the first set, 6-3, but forced a third set with a 6-4 win in the second. In the third set, she fell behind 4-1, before picking up four straight points to take a 5-4 lead. MU responded with three straight points to win the third set, 7-5, winning the match 4-3.
Xavier travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., next weekend to face South Alabama and Middle Tennessee. The Musketeers play USA on Saturday at noon and Middle Tennessee on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
