Monastra's Homer Not Enough as Xavier Baseball Falls to Cincinnati

INDIANAPOLIS - Xavier baseball got a solo homer from Natale Monastra, but fell 6-1 against crosstown rival Cincinnati on Tuesday at Hayden Field.
Xavier fell to 16-32, while the Bearcats improved to 25-21.

• Xavier returns to action this weekend on the road, playing a three-game set at Penn State. First pitch in the series is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

• XU was held to one run on three hits, leaving five men aboard in the game.
• Conor Grammes was held hitless, snapping his team best 13 game hitting streak. The sophomore came into the game with five consecutive multi-hit games.
• Sophomore Natale Monastra continued to swing the bat well, going 1-for-4 and connecting for his fourth homer of the year in the sixth inning.
• Allbry Major (1-for-3) and Nate Soria (1-for-4) also collected hits for Xavier.

• Griffin Lanoue got the start, going 5.1 innings and allowing three earned runs and striking out three. The freshman righty was effective, allowing just two hits, despite walking seven batters.
• Evan Miller entered in the sixth, recording the final two outs but surrendering a three-run homer to UC's Treg Haberkorn.
• Junior Chris Givin came in from shortstop to pitch the seventh, loading the bases but escaping without allowing a run and getting one strikeout.
• Freshman Nick Zwack pitched the eighth, striking out one and allowing one earned run after loading the bases with nobody out.
• Sean Douaire pitched a perfect ninth, striking out a pair on nine pitches.
