Track and Field Set for BIG EAST Championships

CINCINNATI - Xavier track and field travels to Geneva, Ohio, on May 11-12 for the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The two day meet is being held at the SPIRE Institute.

• The Musketeers placed sixth (men and women) at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships last year. The two squads combined to post 20 top-10 finishes at the meet. The men finished with 69 points, the most points by the program since joining the conference. The women's 44 points scored were the second most by the program at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.
• Zachary Polk won four medals at the championships last season, highlighted by two gold medals. The senior standout was tabbed the "Men's High Point Performer of the Meet" as he collected 28.5 points. He enters the weekend with 17 total medals during his Xavier career.
• The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Chris Taylor, Zachary Polk, Matthew Bryant and Russell Platt captured the program's first gold medal at a BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championship last year. Xavier joined the conference in 2013.
• Madeline Britton placed fifth in the 10,000-meter run last season at the conference championships, the first time the Xavier women have collected points in the traditionally competitive event at the meet. Britton currently ranks second in the conference in the event, while ranking 26th in the NCAA East Region. The two-time All-BIG EAST selection competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships last fall and finished eighth at the conference championship.
• Freshman Jenna Clayworth enters the meet with the fifth-best time in the 5,000-meter run (16:40.25) in the BIG EAST this season. Her time ranks 14th among freshmen in the event in the NCAA East Region and 29th nationally.
• Kara Robinson placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles last season at the outdoor championships. The junior currently ranks seventh in the conference in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles. The two-time All-BIG EAST selection currently holds the school record in the 400-meter hurdles.
• Xavier will also look to newcomer William Roberts to score points on the men's side. The freshman currently ranks fifth in the BIG EAST this season in the 400-meter hurdles. He also holds the school record in the event.
