• The Xavier women's cross country team was ranked 12th in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional poll on Monday. The Musketeers were ranked 14th in the preseason poll.
• Xavier will be competing at the Commodore Classic for the second straight year. The Musketeers placed sixth out of 17 teams last season.
• Madeline Britton paced the squad with an 8th place finish (17:46.90). She was followed by then-freshmen Anna Kostarellis (25th - 18:06.10) and Jenna Clayworth (30th - 18:10.20).
• Nine of Xavier's opponents on Saturday are currently ranked in their respective USTFCCA Regional Poll.
• The Xavier women most recently competed at the Queen City Invitational on Sept. 1, placing third out of 10 teams. The Musketeers were paced by Anna Kostarellis who placed third in the 5K race. Her time of 17:47.80 ranks ninth in program history.
• Jenna Clayworth also posted a top-10 finish on the women's side as the sophomore placed sixth at the Queen City Invitational. She posted a time of 17:56.80 in the 5K race.
"I'm really excited for the opportunity our girls have on Saturday in Nashville. For me, this is where the season really gets started. We're going to face two teams that beat us at Queen City along with a handful of other regionally ranked teams. The 5K course that Vanderbilt uses is hilly and we're expecting 90 degree temps but we've got a group of women racing who do well on tough courses when the conditions aren't ideal."
"We have a great 1-2 punch with Anna and Jenna but this weekend I'm looking for our two freshmen from Canada to step it up and be a lot closer to Jennie who was our third at Queen City. If we can execute that plan during the race and manage the conditions well, there's no reason why we shouldn't be a top three team."
• Xavier returns to action at both the Louisville Classic and the Paul Short Run on Saturday, Sept. 29.
