09.04.18 | Athletic Department
CINCINNATI – Xavier men's soccer will be joined by other teams, staff and friends of Xavier Athletics on Saturday, Sept. 8 to benefit "Devin's Team" as part of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati's 17th Annual Buddy Walk. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the event kicks off at 10 a.m. with an after party to follow at Sawyer Point along the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati.
Devin's Team is named for men's soccer head coach Andy Fleming's daughter, Devin, who was born with Down Syndrome in 2011.
There is no fee to walk the event, but participants are encouraged to donate to a team of their choice. Anyone wishing to donate to "Devin's Team" can do so here.
Over 200-plus members of the Xavier Athletic Department are expected to walk, while Devin's Team is again one of the top-earning teams in the region.
• Devin turned seven on May 2 and attends school in Mariemont.
• Devin played soccer in the spring and loves running around with her peers while chasing the soccer ball. She is an absolute fish in the water and loves jumping off the side of the pool and going under water.
• She also loves going to the park and playing on the swings, especially pushing her friends and classmates.
• Most importantly, she loves to yell, "Go X!" and make the X sign with her arms.
• The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati (DSAGC) is a 501C-3 non-profit organization established in 1981 with a history of responding to the changing needs of individuals with Down syndrome.
• The DSAGC serves southwest Ohio, northern Kentucky and southeastern Indiana including Hamilton, Butler, Brown, Clermont, Warren, Highland, Clinton, Adams, Boone, Campbell, Kenton and Dearborn counties. The organization's constituency is comprised of 1,300 individuals with Down syndrome of all ages, 3,000 family members and over 300 local professionals.
• The DSAGC is funded primarily through special events, such as the Buddy Walk. Other sources of revenue include donations and foundation support. The DSAGC is self-sustaining. The funds raised by the organization remain in the local community.
