CINCINNATI – Three members of Xavier's women's soccer team earned Academic All-Ohio honors for the 2018 season. Samantha Dewey earned Academic All-Ohio First Team honors, while Toni Bizzarro and Andie Kennard earned Second Team honors.
Xavier's three honorees were part of an outstanding academic performance by the entire women's soccer team in the fall, with the program posting a combined grade-point average of 3.63, with every player posting a 3.20 or above. The team's GPA for fall 2018 marks the 10th-straight semester the team has posted a 3.50 or higher, dating back to 2013, and the fifth-straight posting a team GPA of 3.60 or above.
Dewey, who was named BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and First Team All-Conference, appeared in all 21 matches for the Musketeers, collecting a team-high 25 points, a new career-best mark which topped her previous career-high point total of 22. Dewey's 25 points also marks the most for a Musketeer since Lauren Giesting's 25 points in 2003. Dewey's 25 points came on team-leading totals in goals (9) and assists (7), the most goals by a Musketeer in over 10 years. Of Dewey's nine goals, four were game-winners this season.
Dewey, who holds a 3.34 cumulative GPA while majoring in Exercise Science major with a minor in Psychology, has been named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team following each year of her Xavier career.
Bizzarro, a junior goalkeeper, started in 19 matches this season, finishing with nine wins and three draws, including eight shutouts. She posted a GAA of 0.95 as Xavier advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since joining the conference, and posted its first 10-win season since 2003. Bizzarro's nine wins are the most for a Musketeer goalkeeper in over a decade, and her eight shutouts stand at fourth-most in a single season in program history. Bizzarro was in-frame for eight of Xavier's nine shutouts, the most for the program since 2000 and the second most in program history.
Bizzarro also earned Google Cloud Academic All-District teams honors as the junior goalkeeper cumulative grade point average of 3.93 as a Biomedical Science major with minors in Psychology and Business.
Kennard, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, earned BIG EAST All-Tournament honors after scoring in Xavier's first ever BIG EAST Semifinal match, where Xavier faced the No. 4 ranked, and top overall seed in the BIG EAST Championship, Georgetown Hoyas. Kennard's tally was one of only 10 goals the Hoyas, who were unbeaten entering the match, allowed all season, including GU's run to the College Cup. It was only the seventh goal allowed by the Hoyas up to that point, and only the third tally by a BIG EAST squad. The goal was her second of the season and the fourth of her career.
Kennard, a senior defend, holds a 3.81 cumulative GPA while studying Marketing and Entrepreneurial Studies. She has been named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team following each season during her time at Xavier.
