Musketeers take on North Texas at Iowa tomorrow

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Xavier women's tennis opened the spring season with the first of two matches at Iowa, taking on the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday evening, falling 7-0. The Musketeers return to action tomorrow morning against North Texas.

THE MATCH

In doubles action, Iowa opened with a win in the No. 3 spot, 6-2, over Hunter Roper and Rachael Reichenbach. Xavier picked up a win in the No. 2 spot for Emily Thomas and Ahmeir Kyle, 6-3, before Sophia Abelson and Anna Letto, in the No. 1 spot fell narrowly, 7-5. Iowa secured the point and the 1-0 lead to start.

In singles play, Iowa took the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-1 over Anna Letto to pick up a second point. The third point came in the No. 6 spot, where Hunter Roper fell, 6-2, 6-4, putting the Hawkeyes up, 3-0.

In the No. 3 spot, Rachael Reichenbach took the first set, 6-3, before falling, 6-3, to Iowa's Ashleigh Jacobs in the second set. Jacobs took the third set, 6-1, to pick up the point.

After falling 6-4 in the first set of the No. 4 spot, Emily Thomas fell, 7-6 after nine tiebreakers in the No. 4 spot.

In the No. 1 spot, Ahmeir Kyle took the first set, 6-4, before falling 6-3, in the second. In the third set, Kyle fell 6-4, to move the score to 6-0 in favor of Iowa.

In the No. 2 spot, Sophia Abelson fell, 3-6, in the first set, before coming back to take the 7-5 win in the second set. In the third set, Abelson fell, 6-4, to close out the match.
