The sophomore guard scored a career-high 16 points on Friday night

CINCINNATI - Sophomore Aaliyah Dunham matched her career-high in scoring on Friday night, posting 16 points in a 90-44 loss to No. 9/10 Marquette. The Musketeers moved to 10-9 (1-7 BIG EAST), while the Golden Eagles improved to 17-3 (8-0 BIG EAST).

FIRST HALF

• Marquette raced out to an early 29-7 lead at the 2:26 mark in the first quarter. Xavier hit its final three shots of the quarter to make the score, 34-13, heading into the second frame. Aaliyah Dunham paced Xavier with five points on 2-for-3 shooting in the opening quarter.

• Both teams scored 16 points in the second quarter to make the score, 50-29, at the break.

• Aaliyah Dunham paced the Musketeers with eight points at halftime, while Na'Teshia Owens added seven points. A'riana Gray led the team on the glass with five rebounds.

• Marquette held a 28-13 advantage in rebounding at intermission and a 19-2 edge in points off of turnovers.

SECOND HALF

• Marquette opened the second half on a 13-3 run on 6-for-10 shooting to build a 63-32 lead at the 3:59 mark. The Golden Eagles went 12-for-20 from the floor in the third quarter to take an 80-39 advantage into the final quarter. The Golden Eagles outscored Xavier, 10-5, in the final stanza for the 90-44 score.

NOTABLES

• Sophomore Aaliyah Dunham matched her career high in scoring with 16 points. She was 6-for-15 from the floor and 4-for-8 from behind the arc. The guard added two steals and two assists.

• Sophomore forward A'riana Gray added six points and a team-high 11 rebounds. She has pulled down 10 or more rebounds in 13 games this year.

• Na'Teshia Owens added seven points and four assists, while Maddy Johnson posted four points and four rebounds.

• Marquette won the battle on the glass, 60-26, and scored 20 more points off of turnovers (25-5).

UP NEXT

• The Musketeers return to action on Sunday, Jan. 27 against DePaul. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Cintas Center.
