Gray, Stewart Post Double-Doubles in Overtime Loss to DePaul

Sophomore Princess Stewart scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds on Sunday afternoon
CINCINNATI - Sophomores Princess Stewart and A'riana Gray both posted double-doubles on Sunday afternoon as the Musketeers dropped a 73-71 overtime matchup against DePaul. Xavier had 2,257 fans in attendance, the team's second-largest home crowd of the season.
Xavier moved to 10-10 (1-8 BIG EAST), while DePaul improved to 15-6 (6-3 BIG EAST).
• DePaul jumped out an early 9-2 lead and led 21-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Blue Demons forced eight turnovers, converting the miscues into 15 points. Na'Teshia Owens led Xavier with seven points on 3-for-5 shooting in the opening frame.
• The Musketeers responded by opening the second quarter on a 12-5 run capped by an Aly Reiff three pointer, getting Xavier within one (26-25) at the 5:05 mark. DePaul outscored Xavier, 13-6, in the closing five minutes to take a 39-31.
• Na'Teshia Owens paced Xavier with nine points at the break, while A'riana Gray chipped in seven. Both teams pulled down 20 rebounds with Gray pacing the Musketeers with nine.
• Xavier opened the second half on a 17-9 run to tie the game for the second time, 48-48, with 3:32 on the clock. Princess Stewart scored seven points on 3-for-4 shooting during the run.
• The Musketeers also tied the game at 51 before DePaul's Mart'e Grays hit a basket with four seconds left in the third quarter, making the score 53-51. Xavier outscored DePaul, 20-14, in the third quarter.
• Xavier opened the fourth quarter on a 6-2 run to take its first lead of the game, 57-55, at the 5:57 mark. The Musketeers led by as many as four points (65-61) with 1:42 left in regulation before the Blue Demons scored four unanswered points to send the game to overtime.
• DePaul opened overtime with a 6-1 run to take a 71-66 advantage with 3:36 on the clock. Xavier closed within one, 72-71, with 1:36 left on the clock on a Princess Stewart jumper.
• Following a Rebekah Dahlman free throw with five seconds left in overtime, Xavier called timeout to advance the basketball. Princess Stewart missed the game-winning three pointer as time expired as DePaul escaped Cintas Center with a 73-71 win.
• Sophomore A'riana Gray finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds, her 11th double-double of the year. She added one block, one steal and one assist. She now leads the BIG EAST in double-doubles this season.
• Sophomore Princess Stewart scored 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting to go along with a career-high 12 rebounds, her first career double-double. The guard added three assists.
• Sophomore Aaliyah Dunham posted 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting with two 3-pointers. She added a team-high four assists and four steals.
• Junior Na'Teshia Owens scored a team-high 21 points, her third career 20-point performance. She chipped in four rebounds and two assists.
• DePaul won the battle on the glass, 49-46, and held a 26-10 advantage in points off of turnovers. Xavier posted a 10-9 advantage in second-chance points.
• The game featured six ties and four lead changes. Xavier moved to 2-2 on the year in overtime games.
• The Musketeers return to action on Friday, Feb. 1 at Seton Hall. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Walsh Gymnasium.
