Women's Tennis Takes 4-0 Win at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Xavier women's tennis moved to 2-1 on the season, topping Indiana, 4-0, for its second-straight win.

"Today was a total team effort," said head coach Doug Matthews. "Everyone has been challenging each other in practice from 1 to 10 in our lineup. That along with the tough schedule we have played has really helped us in all of the close sets we have won. As a team I'm most impressed with our confidence because it felt like we expected to win today which isn't easy to do against a Power 5 school."

THE MATCH

In doubles play, Hunter Roper and Rachael Reichenbach collected a 6-2 win in the No. 3 spot. Indiana came back to claim the No. 1 spot, 6-4, over Sophia Abelson and Anna Letto. Xavier secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win for Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas in the No. 2 spot.

Xavier took the 2-0 lead with a two-set win for Kaitlin Ruether in the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 7-5. The Xavier lead pushed out to 3-0 with a win in the No. 2 spot for Sophia Abelson, who won 6-4, 7-6, taking the second set with a 7-5 mark.

In the No. 4 spot, Rachel Reichenbach took the first set, 6-3, then went to a tiebreaker in the second set, taking the tiebreakers 7-3 for the 7-6 win in the second set to put Xavier ahead 4-0 and secure the win for the Musketeers.

In the No. 1 spot, Ahmeir Kyle was leading 2-1 in the third set, after taking the second set 7-5, when the match was decided.

In the No. 3 spot, Emily Thomas trailed 3-2 in the third set after taking the first set, 6-2.

In the No. 5 spot, Hunter Roper was trailing 5-4 in the second set after winning the first set, 6-4.
