Four Musketeers Score in Double Figures, Xavier Tops Seton Hall, 80-76

Freshman Lauren Wasylson matched her career high in scoring with 16 points
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Four Musketeers scored in double figures on Friday night as Xavier women's basketball picked up an 80-76 BIG EAST road win at Seton Hall. The Musketeers swept the season series versus the Pirates, improving to 11-10 (2-8 BIG EAST) on the year. Seton Hall dropped to 13-8 (5-5 BIG EAST).
• Xavier opened the game by scoring nine unanswered points capped by a Na'Teshia Owens' three-point play. The Musketeers led 11-2 with 6:22 on the clock before Seton Hall responded by using a 10-0 run to take its first lead of the game, 12-11. The Musketeers closed the first quarter on a 9-2 run capped by an Owens three pointer as the quarter ended, giving Xavier an 18-14 lead. Owens had nine points on 3-for-4 shooting in the opening stanza.
• Aly Reiff hit a three pointer to open the second quarter and push Xavier's lead to seven, 21-14. The Musketeers hit 60 percent (6-for-10) of their shot attempts with four 3-pointers to open the quarter, taking a 35-30 advantage with 3:35 on the clock (media timeout). Xavier maintained its lead for the remainder of the half, taking a 39-35 lead into the locker room.
• Na'Teshia Owens paced the Musketeers with 14 points at the break, going 5-for-7 from the floor with two 3-pointers. Lauren Wasylson added eight points.
• Seton Hall held a 16-15 advantage on the glass. A'riana Gray and Princess Stewart both had four rebounds for Xavier.
• The Musketeers went 5-for-9 from the floor with three 3-pointers to open the second half, outscoring the Pirates 15-9 to take their first double-figure lead of the game (54-44) with 4:33 on the clock. Xavier closed the third quarter on a 17-2 run, taking a 63-46 advantage into the final stanza. The Musketeers held the Pirates without a field goal for the final 6:26 of the the quarter.
• Seton Hall used a 5-0 run on 3-for-4 shooting to get within 10 (63-53) with 6:50 left in regulation. The Pirates battled back to get within two, 78-76, with eight seconds left in the game before a pair of Na'Teshia Owens free throws sealed the win, 80-76.
• Junior Na'Teshia Owens scored a team-high 21 points on 6-for-10 shooting, while matching her career high in assists with eight. She has scored 20 or more points in a game four times in her career.
• Sophomore A'riana Gray posted her BIG EAST leading 12th double-double of the year, posting 16 points and 12 rebounds. The forward was 6-for-9 from the floor with two blocks.
• Freshman Lauren Wasylson matched her career high in scoring with 16 points, going 4-for-8 from behind the arc. The guard added two rebounds and was 4-for-4 from the foul line.
• Sophomore Aaliyah Dunham added 12 points on 5-for-10 shooting with four rebounds and three assists.
• Xavier drained 13 three pointers in the win, the team's seventh game of the season with 10 or more three pointers. The Musketeers were also 17-for-18 from the foul line.
• Seton Hall won the battle on the glass, 32-29, and posted a 16-7 advantage in points off of turnovers. Xavier posted a 22-5 advantage in bench points.
• The Musketeers return to action on Sunday, Feb. 3 at St. John's. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. from Carnesecca Arena.
