Women's Soccer Picks Up Road Win at Marquette, Moving to Top of BIG EAST Standings

Grace Bahr and Molly McLaughlin each score in first 10 minutes of 2-1 win
MILWAUKEE - Xavier women's soccer picked up a program-best fifth BIG EAST Conference win on Thursday, topping Marquette, 2-1, at Valley Fields. With the win, Xavier moves to 12-3-2 on the season and 5-2 in conference play and moves to the top of the BIG EAST standings with 15 points, a program-best mark since joining the conference in 2013.
Xavier took a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes, scoring first on a penalty kick from Grace Bahr, and then adding another after Molly McLaughlin finished off a corner kick. Marquette would get a tally back in the 24th minute following a corner kick to send the match to half time with the Musketeers leading, 2-1.
After Xavier held a 6-1 advantage on shots in the first half, Marquette evened out possession in the second half holding a 6-5 advantage on shots after the break but Toni Bizzarro collected two save in the second half to keep the Golden Eagles from scoring the equalizer, setting the final score at 2-1.
With the win, Xavier clinched a berth to the six-team BIG EAST Championship.

24' | MARQUETTE | After Xavier intercepted a corner kick from the left side, MU's Kylie Sprecher served the ball from the right side of the penalty box to Maddie Monticello just in front of the net. Monticello used a header to shoot over Toni Bizzarro to cut Xavier's lead to 2-1.

- Molly McLaughlin's goal was her second of the season, both coming in BIG EAST play. Combined with an assist, she has five points on the season.
- Xavier held an 11-7 advantage on shots, including a 7-3 lead on shots on-goal. Samantha Dewey led the Musketeers with four shots.
- Grace Bahr, Hayley Jakovich and Grace Brauer played the full 90 minutes on Xavier's defense, limiting Marquette to to three shots on goal.
- Toni Bizzarro played the full time in-frame, collecting two saves to move to 7-1-1 on the season.
- Xavier's win is the team's fifth in BIG EAST play, a program-best mark since joining the conference. The win also gives Xavier 15 points in the conference standings, a new program best since joining the BIG EAST, moving Xavier to the top of the standings with two matches remaining.
- The win is the third-straight for the Musketeers, the top streak in the conference, and clinched a third-straight BIG EAST Championship berth.
- Xavier's win is the 12th of the season, matching the 2003 season for the most since Xavier's 14-win season in 2000.
- The Musketeers moved to 7-3-1 on the road, a BIG EAST best mark and among the top 20 teams in NCAA DI.
