Xavier Opens BIG EAST Home Slate with 3-1 Win Over Creighton

Schembri, Butler and Sroka each score in first conference win
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's soccer grabbed an early lead and never relinquished it, taking a 3-1 win over Creighton on Thursday evening to move to 8-2-2 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST play.
Sydney Schembri struck early, scoring on the rebound of a Brooke Sroka shot to put Xavier ahead 1-0 in the first 15 minutes. The Musketeers extended the lead to two on a goal from Rachel Butler, putting away a shot from Jenna Prathapa that rebounded off the goalkeeper to give Xavier the 2-0 lead midway through the first.
Shortly before halftime, Creighton got a goal back, sending the game into halftime with Xavier leading 2-1. The Musketeers held onto the one-goal advantage until the 68th minute when Brooke Sroka shot from the left side of the box, tucking the ball into the far corner for the 3-1 lead.
Olivia Jenkins picked up her fourth win of the season in-goal, with Grace Bahr, Hayley Jakovich and Grace Brauer playing the full time in Xavier's backfield, limiting Creighton to just four looks on-frame.
