Musketeers Pull Away in Second Half to Top Indianapolis in Exhibition Game

Goodin, Marshall and Jones score double figures in victory over the Greyhounds
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's basketball defeated Indianapolis, 64-52, on Wednesday evening in an exhibition game. Senior Quentin Goodin led the way in scoring for the Musketeers with 16 points. Junior Naji Marshall added a double-double for the Xavier, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the game.

FIRST HALF |
- Xavier opened the game with a put-back by Tyrique Jones as he finished through contact and drew a foul. On the following possession, Paul Scruggs stole the ball and finished the effort with a coast-to-coast dunk as the Musketeers took an early 4-0 lead.
- With 13:00 to go in the first half, Bryce Moore hit a corner three-pointer from a Quentin Goodin assist to tie the game at 10.
- The Musketeers scored 10 of their first 14 points in the paint, two of which came off of Indianapolis turnovers. Xavier shot 63 percent from the floor through their first 11 attempts.
- With 5:34 left to play in the half, Scruggs intercepted an outlet pass, giving it to Goodin who finished with a contested fast-break layup to tie the game, 20-20.
- After a 6-0 run by the Greyhounds, Naji Marshall connected on a corner three-pointer to bring the Musketeers within a point. On the following possession, Marshall drove down the court and made a pullup jumper to give Xavier a 27-26 lead on the last made bucket of the half with 37 seconds left.
- Xavier shot 41 percent from the floor in the half, including 18 points scored in the paint. The Musketeers held Indianapolis to 36 percent shooting from the floor and grabbed five offensive rebounds in the half.
- Marshall led the way in scoring for Xavier with seven points on 3-of-7 shooting from the floor. Marshall also connected on a three-pointer and grabbed 10 of Xavier's 22 rebounds in the half.
- Jones added six points for the Musketeers, shooting 100 percent from the floor in seven minutes of play. He also brought down five rebounds, three of which were offensive.

- Following a three-pointer to open the half by Indianapolis, Tyrique Jones made a layup under the basket and was fouled. On the next possession, Goodin connected on a driving layup to give Xavier a 31-29 lead with 18:00 left to go in the game.
- With 16:50 remaining in the half, Leighton Schrand connected on a fast-break layup off a Quentin Goodin assist as the Musketeers regained their one-point lead.
- Naji Marshall hit a second-chance three pointer from the left side of the court with 13:50 left in the game. Two possessions later, Quentin Goodin drove down the court and finished a contested under-hand layup from the left side to give Xavier a 42-36 lead, forcing Indianapolis to call a timeout.
- Following the Greyhound timeout, Goodin connected on a three-pointer with 12:00 left in the game to give Xavier a 45-36 advantage, their largest lead at that point of the game.
- Quentin Goodin scored on two consecutive mid-court steals with 6:30 remaining in the game, giving Xavier a 53-44 lead. Goodin finished the first steal with a contested reverse-layup and the second with an uncontested dunk.
- On the following possession, Dahmir Bishop connected on his first three-pointer as a Musketeer to give Xavier a 12-point advantage with 5:35 left to play.
- Leighton Schrand connected on a three-pointer with 2:20 left to play in the game. On the following possession, Dieonte Miles scored his first bucket of the night off of an assist from Bishop.
- The Musketeers shot 16-of-33, 49 percent, from the field in the half and connected on four three-pointers.
- Xavier forced 11 Greyhound turnovers in the half and scored 11 points off takeaways. The Musketeers also scored 22 of their 37 second half points in the paint.
- Goodin led the way for Xavier with 12 points in the half on 5-of-6 shooting from the field.

- Quentin Goodin scored a game high 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting. He also grabbed three rebounds and dished out five assists.
- Naji Marshall added 14 points on 6-of-16 shooting and pulled down 13 rebounds in the game.
- The Musketeers outscored Indianapolis on fast break opportunities, 12-0. Xavier also scored 40 points in the paint compared to just 12 points scored in the paint by the Greyhounds.
- Xavier shot 45 percent from the field and connected on six three-pointers in the contest.
- Xavier forced Indianapolis to turn the ball over 18 times in the game and scored 15 total points off Greyhound giveaways.
