
Volleyball Stumbles Against Villanova, Looks Ahead to Georgetown

Xavier looks to rebound against Hoyas on Saturday at 3:00 pm ET
• Following the match against Georgetown, Xavier will host a pair of BIG EAST matches at Cintas Center on October 11-12 against Seton Hall and St. John's.Â

• Lauren Hanlon led the attack for the Musketeers, as she tallied 10 kills and a .318 hitting percentage. She also tallied two assisted blocks to help Xavier win the battle at the net 7-3.
• For the second-straight match, Xavier collected three aces on the day, as MaryAnn O'Toole, Carrigan O'Reilly and Jayda Carlton once again each contributed to the serving success.
• Defensively, Madi Kutruff racked up 18 digs, the most by either team, as she racked up exactly half of Xavier's 36 dig total.

  Summary |
• Set One was as competitive a set as possible. Xavier held multiple two-point advantages, and Villanova never got more than a one-point lead until Xavier eld 18-16. Finally, the Wildcats had a breakthrough and scored five-straight points to earn the largest lead of the match so far at 21-18. The Musketeers bounced back to tie the score at 21, but Villanova would not be denied as they finished on a 4-1 run to take the first set.
• Villanova and Xavier continued to trade points early in Set Two Villanova broke a 5-5 tie with a 3-0 run. They shortly followed with a 6-1 run to break the set open at 15-8. Xavier fought back to get within four, but that was as close as they'd get before the Wildcats closed on another 6-1 run to win the set 25-15.
• Villanova came out of the break firing, as they got off to an 11-4 lead in Set 3. However, despite the odds, Xavier stuck around and narrowed the gap to as little as 13-15. Villanova respionded with a 4-1 run to take back control, and the teams once again traded points down the stretch. Ultimately, Villanova would take the final set 25-18.
