Marshall, Carter lead the way in comeback win at Cintas Center
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's basketball defeated Mizzou, 63-58, on Tuesday evening in a comeback, overtime victory at Cintas Center. Naji Marshall scored a team-high 17 points while Jason Carter recorded his first Xavier career double-double as they led the Musketeers to their 20th win against current SEC opponents since 2008.

FIRST HALF |
- Xavier opened the game with a one-handed alley-oop dunk by senior Tyrique Jones off of a lob pass from Naji Marshall. On the next possession, Marshall was fouled in the paint and connected on one free-throw, making the score 4-3 in favor of the Tigers with 17:00 left to play in the half.
- Xavier took a 5-4 lead one minute later when Jason Carter made a back down hook-shot from the right block off a Mizzou turnover.
- With 14:20 left, Marshall connected on a three-pointer and, on the following possession, Carter made a contested second-chance layup following an offensive rebound to give the Musketeers a 10-5 lead.
- With 9:30 left to play in the first half, Bryce Moore connected on a three-pointer off the dribble, making the score 19-10 in favor of Xavier. The Musketeers then forced four Mizzou turnovers in less than three minutes of play. The Tigers turned the ball over 11 times in the first 13:05 of the game.
- The Musketeers took a 27-12 lead with 4:40 left to play in the half following a made fast-break dunk by Quentin Goodin following a steal by Goodin at half court.
- Xavier's final point of the half came off a made free-throw by Jones with 0:17 left. The Musketeers took a 28-21 lead going into halftime.
- Xavier shot 9-of-28, 32 percent, from the floor in the half compared to Mizzou's 26 percent from the field. The Musketeers also connected on two three-pointers.
- Xavier forced the Tigers to turn the ball over 13 times in the half and scored 10 points off those turnovers. The Musketeers also scored 12 points in the paint and six second-chance points.
- Marshall led the way for the Musketeers in the half with eight points, shooting 50 percent from the field. He also grabbed three rebounds and dished out an assist.
- Xavier led by as many as 15 points in the half after recovering from a four-point deficit to begin the game.

SECOND HALF |
- Xavier began the second half with a made jump shot from the right side by Naji Marshall. On the next possession, Quentin Goodin made a fast-break layup off his second steal of the night to make the score 32-24 in favor of the Musketeers with 17:40 left to play.
- The Tigers went on a 10-2 run over the next 4:30 and tied the game at 34 with 12:30 remaining in the game. Mizzou then took a 38-34 lead with 10:24 left.
- With 8:05 remaining in the game, Paul Scruggs scored his first points of the game to cut Missouri's lead back down to two points. On the ensuing Tiger possession, the Musketeers forced a three-second violation turnover.
- Xavier and Mizzou then traded two offensive fouls each. With 4:20 remaining, two made free-throws by Jason Carter brought Xavier within three points, making the score 43-40. On the following possession, Scruggs connected on a driving layup to bring the Musketeers back within three after a pair of made free-throws by Missouri.
- Scruggs connected on a driving layup after he blocked a shot on the defensive end with 1:38 left to play, making the score 47-46 in favor of the Tigers. Mizzou scored on the following possession, forcing Xavier to call a timeout. Scruggs drained two free-throws following a one-and-one opportunity on the next offensive possession to make the score 49-48 with 0:50 left in the game.
- Missouri's Xavier Pinson made a pull-up jumper and, on the next Xavier possession, Marshall made a three-pointer with 0:26 left to play to make the score 51-51.
- Mizzou missed a corner three-pointer as time expired, sending the game into overtime with the score tied at 51 a piece.

OVERTIME |
- Paul Scruggs scored the first bucket of overtime with a turnaround jumper from the paint to give Xavier a 53-51 lead with 4:15 left to play. Tyrique Jones then connected on one free-throw to give the Musketeers a three-point lead.
- Xavier forced a Mizzou turnover on the next defensive possession. Jason Carter was then sent to the free-throw line with 2:30 remaining after he grabbed an offensive rebound. Carter drained two free-throws, making the score 56-51 in favor of the Musketeers.
- Xavier and Missouri then traded two made free-throws each, making the score 58-53. Xavier forced a travel turnover on their next defensive possession and were awarded a goaltend on the ensuing offensive possession.
- Missouri's Torrence Watson connected on a three-pointer with 1:00 left to play to make the score 60-56. The teams traded made free-throws and Carter secured a defensive rebound as time expired. Xavier won by a final score of 63-58.

- Xavier shot 20-of-61, 33 percent, from the field in the game and scored 28 points in the paint.
- The Musketeers forced 20 Tiger turnovers and scored 18 points off Mizzou giveaways. Xavier also grabbed nine offensive rebounds in the game.
- Naji Marshall led the way in scoring for the Musketeers for the third-straight game. Marshall scored 17 points on 5-of-16 shooting from the floor. He also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists.
- Paul Scruggs added 12 points for the Musketeers and did so on 5-of-11 shooting in 40 minutes of play.
- Jason Carter recorded the first double-double of his Xavier career, scoring 12 points and bringing down 11 rebounds in the game. Both are Xavier career highs for Carter.
- Xavier is now 5-1 all time in matchups against Mizzou and is 20-7 against current SEC members dating back to 2008.
