Xavier Men's Basketball Teams Up with Coaching for Literacy and United Way in the #Fight4Literacy
12.19.19 | Men's Basketball
Funds raised will prepare Cincinnati children for reading success in Kindergarten.
CINCINNATIÂ - Kids all across the state of Ohio are in the fight of their lives. A fight to read proficiently by the end of the 3rd grade. 61% of 4th-grade students in Ohio are not reading at the proficient level.
Â
Because life success is directly tied to the ability to read proficiently, the futures of local kids like Annie, Jaylen, and Lucas in Greater Cincinnati are on the line every year. That is why the United Way's Success By 6 initiative helps parents and caregivers prepare their children to succeed and read in kindergarten.
Â
To join the United Way in support of childhood reading, the Xavier Musketeers men's basketball team and Coach Travis Steele will host Coaching for Literacy's (CFL) #Fight4Literacy Game initiative on January 8, 2020.
Â
XAVIER FANS CAN GIVE THE GIFT OF LITERACY TO LOCAL STUDENTS
For every $10 contributed by Xavier Musketeer fans, Coaching for Literacy will provide two books to local families. These books will help parents and caregivers prepare their children for kindergarten. To learn more text MUSKETEERS4LIT to 71-777 or visit: www.fightforliteracygames.org.
Â
Thanks to CFL's Impact Promise, 100% of funds raised by Xavier fans will stay local and support the work of Success By 6.
Â
COACHING STAFF SET TO WEAR GREEN AND PROMOTE CHILDHOOD READING
During the #Fight4Literacy Game, Coach Steele and his staff will wear CFL's #Green4Literacy awareness kit, showcasing a green tie, green lapel pin, and wristband.
Â
"We want to encourage our fans to join with us in Coaching for Literacy's mission to give every child the ability to read,'' said Xavier Head Coach, Travis Steele. "Through the United Way of Greater Cincinnati's sponsorship of our #Fight4Literacy Game, we will help young students in our community and create a brighter future."
