Jones, Scruggs Post Double Figures in Victory Over TCU

FORT WORTH, Tx. – Xavier outlasted a TCU run in the final minutes to top the Horned Frogs, 67-59, in the annual BIG EAST- Big 12 Battle on Sunday night. Tyrique Jones posted a double-double, earning 18 points and tying a season-high 14 boards. Quentin Goodin earned a season-high in assists with 11 on the night. Paul Scruggs added 10 points, four rebounds and one block.
Xavier improves to 11-2 on the season headed into BIG EAST play next week.

FIRST HALF |
- Xavier took the first lead of the game after an early TCU turnover that turned into a Jason Carter bucket from Quentin Goodin.
- Two more quick baskets from Tyrique Jones and Naji Marshall forced TCU to call the first time out of the game, 6-2 at 17:24.
- Out of the first media, the Musketeers combined for a 7-0 run, courtesy of two assists and a jumper from Goodin. Xavier took the first double-digit lead of the afternoon 15-4 with 13:27 remaining in the first.
- TCU responded with a 6-3 run to bring the Horned Frogs' deficit within seven as a jump ball situation forced the second media timeout of the game.
- Paul Scruggs found Marshall for a tough, corner three to put Xavier up 21-11.
- Carter dished to Jones in the paint, finishing with a dunk, 23-12 at the nine-minute mark.
- Xavier went 5-5 from the field while holding TCU 1-7 from the field with 7:19 remaining
- Goodin earned his 500thcareer assist finding Jones for the dunk, 36-26 with 1:24 remaining in the half.
- To close the half, a missed driving layup by Scruggs opened the opportunity for a tip-in buzzer beater for Jones as the Musketeers entered the locker room up 38-27 at the break.
- In the first half alone, Goodin tied his season high in assists, ending the half with eight.
- Jones led all scorers with 10 points and led all rebounders with six.
- Zach Freemantle collected three boards while adding seven points including a deep three to extend the Xavier lead.
- Carter shot 3-5 from the field in 17 minutes of play.
- The Musketeers dominated on the defensive glass in the first 20 minutes, 12-6.
- Xavier entered the locker room shooting an impressive 59 percent from the field, 16-27 and 57 percent from beyond the arc at 4-7.
- The Musketeers lead by as many at 13 points throughout the half, holding the Horned Frogs from 17 percent shooting from three.
- Xavier outscored TCU in points in the paint, 22-12 in the first.

- Quentin Goodin opened the half for Xavier with an off-balanced jumper to extend the lead, 40-27.
- Tyrique Jones went on a personal 8-2 run in the opening minutes of the second, boosting Xavier's lead 48-29.
- TCU held Xavier scoreless for over three minutes as both teams headed into the under-12 media.
- KyKy Tandy erased a five-minute scoring drought with a deep three, 53-37 Xavier with 10 minutes remaining.
- Tandy connected again for back-to-back threes to give the Musketeers momentum over the Horned Frogs.
- Xavier embarked on 11-2 run, 61-41, over a three-minute period with eight points from Tandy. The Musketeers held the Horned Frogs shooting 1-8 from the field throughout this period.
- Three Musketeer turnovers resulted in a TCU 7-0 run, to bring the deficit within 15 with less than five minutes remaining in the game.
- Paul Scruggs connected for a contested three out of the final media, drawing the foul and hitting the free throw for a four-point play, 65-48 Xavier.
- Despite an 13-6 TCU run in the final three minutes of play, Xavier topped the Horned Frogs 67-59.
- Tyrique Jones finished the game with his sixth double-double of the season, earning 18 points and 14 rebounds.
